Many older cars were the same though mate, although it seems odd newer amercian made autos are still using that today.

Wait I get it now! They only use as many numbers as they think they'll need to save money! No wonder the odometer on RX-7s only goes to the four digits!

You are right Ford does suck, what idiots. I cant believe how cheap they are, putting together a quality car like that, but then diminishing there quality by leaving out a digit. Just incase you have not noticed I am being sarcastic FORD RULES

I used to own a Ford [Cortina].Compared to subsequent cars I have owned,it sucked.Yes,even the diesel is a better car IMHO.The only good thing about it was the cheapass odometer.I bought the car near-new with 30,000 km on the clock, and sold it wit 370,000 km,but of course it only showed up as 70,000.The guy who bought it asked if it had been 'around the clock'.Iconfirmed that it had........

...........but he didn't ask how many times!

Ok, here is a reason why Fords, do suck. Who puts ABS on ONLY THE REAR WHEELS?!?!?! It needs to be on the front wheels so when you do slam on the brakes you maintain steering control, who cares if the rears lock up you can correct it by steering the front wheels if it breaks lose. :biggrin2:

Usually when you slam on the brakes, being that the front brakes do most of the work, the car will nose dive. The rear brakes are not doing as much work, so if one of the rear brakes catches more than the other, the rear end of the car might come around on you. By having ABS on the rear, it'll help keep the car straight without you having to steer it straight. Ideally, 4 wheel ABS is the best.

Aaaaactually most of the 03 models DO have 4 wheel abs. The explorers, expeditions, SVT fuckus (which I HATE), mustang, and a LOT of the mazda models do. Depending on what you're looking for, it's really not thaaat bad. If you're looking for a relatively cheap car that gets good gas, then take yourself over to the honda dealer. If you're looking for a truck, then there ya go... and some people are just mustang people. No matter how much the car changes, they will always have one. And the Mach I rocks my face off. :) I still love my honda, but the blue ovals aren't really that bad if you know what you're doing.

Seems all of this is coming from people that own older Ford's. Cars change over time, and you can't generalize beacause a certain year-span was horrible; it happens to every company.

Ford are 100000000x cheaper in quality than any car out there!, They're cheap, and i think the new F-150's (2004) look augly as hell. I hate fords no offense, to anyone, but i just hate them, they suck to work on too, GM and Mopar all the way!!! (for american) lol

Oh my, here we go again, the dreaded Ford-Chevy debate, and by a teenager yet  . Look, I've had many Chevys, Fords, Mopars, foreign cars etc. They all have their drawbacks, Granted older car quality wasn't very good, but it wasn't just one manufacturer. Geez, give me a break, you drive an S10! I've had 2 Camaros, both lacked in ride quality. My 67 Mustang, handles so much better than those Camaros every did when new, granted the Stang has some suspension work done to it, but it still handles better, and that for a car thats 35 years old. Give it a rest, ask GM why they stopped production of the Camaro and Firebird. Gm is bringing back an old namesake, I forgot which one it is, (I'm old, so I'm allowed to forget), it's supposed to look hot, but wait, a Honda engine, and maybe front wheel drive too?

I'm a professional mechanic.I do regular, everyday cars and I work on 9 second monsters.Know what?Doesn't matter who made the bitch,it's gonna need to be fixed at some point.Ford,Honda,whatever....hell even Mercedes dealerships have service departments.

Personally,I love my Fords. The whole bang-for-the buck thing, aftermarket support,etc...but if I had to choose only one make to work on it'd be Honda. They are the sweetest things to work on,even ones with 350,000 km,they're well designed, logically built, easy to work on.

Oh yeah, and slow as hell unless you put $20,000 into 'em.

That speedometer is marked very strange, 0, three lines, 15, three lines, 25, three lines, 35, ect. I realize that it could be to take away from error, but all gauges are innacurate in the first 15%. ( Or at least thats what I've heard many a time.)

i still like fords... however the transmission on my dads 96 f150 broke, and now its gonna cost well over 5 grand to repair it. (appently ford's manual transmissions cost more than their automatic transmissions which is completely fucking retarded), and we also have to rebuild the drive shaft

You really don't need more the 0.356 of a liter to get the job done. And eight cylinders is four times too many, but Steel probably thinks any number of cylinders is too many...
