240SX Performance Mods

Are there any mods I can do to my S14 which just require tweaking and not the purchase of any parts? I don't have the money to buy any major parts right now so I'm trying to find out what I can do to enhance what I already have.

if you have subs or big speakers, take those out. gut the rear out, including seats, spare, jack, etc. i just did mine and i managed to take out 110 lbs. quite a lot if you ask me! thats like buying an intake...

take out the sound resonator in the front of the car, it's located under the air filter box. also take out the bottom portion of the air filter box, you don't need it, it just muffles sound. it sounds great without it too.

then make yourself some NOS stickers from your computer, stick them on the side of your car, and no one will mess with you :biggrin:

So I'll take that as a no.

look at my above post. that should take off about .4 seconds from your 1/4mi

well its a yes but its not really something everyone likes to do

you can still gut the trunk its not like its something you look at anyhoo a cone filter on the stock pipe and running out the headers (honda civic Ghetto style)is a start or even replacing the exaust with a straght pipe could help (not really free but pretty cheap)


not the best ideas if you can afford stuff but thats how poor bastards have done it for years.

yea i definately noticed a difference when i gutted my rear. i couldn't believe it... musta took off about .2 or .3 seconds

free test pipe= taking off cat and raming floor jack handle through to gut it out

bypass coolant in throttle body. Get some kind of pipe connector, and take off the intake pipe. Take off the two collant lines that run into the throttle body, and connect them. These are small, so make sure you get something small to connect them. Cooler intake temp!

advance timing

get some ATF and put it in a cup, then pull a vacuum line that goes into the intake manifold, stick it into the ATF letting it suck the ATF in slowly *key word here is slowly* maybe dabing it into the cup a couple of times. do about two cups. do it slow though, and wait a like five seconds between every dab. the ATF cleans out the deposits in the combustion chamber because it is a cleaning agent and has detergents. But don't go crazy with it, just a little works. Oh, the car better be on and warmed up first. also, a $hit load of smoke will billow out of your exhaust. your car will be smoother and pick up quicker guaranteed. plus ATF is only 2 bucks

just think of this guys....... roughly 10lbs of weight removed is like gaining 1 hp.

the standard equation people go by is 100lbs is about like a 10hp gain as far as power to weight ratios and all that good stuff.

I was looking more for HP gains. I have nothing in my car so I can't really lighten it.

you must be really new to this car stuff. lower intake temps = more horsepower

cleaner engine = regaining horsepower you have lost

lighter car means if you lose 100 lbs and the next guys buys an intake to gain ten horse, and both of you had the same car, in the same condition, you would both be just as fast.

my car has no spare tire, no lift up trunk cover, and no backseats


edit- heres another for you, cut off your A/C (air conditioning) belt. That there will free up 5-6 horses for you engine. If you want to be a kook, lift up your hood in the back by using washers and longer bolts, then remove your fan, and go to pick and pull and buy a cheapo electric fan.

Some people prefer to actually have a good looking interior while remaining "fast". Ofcourse gutting out your car will make you faster, however it does not look attractive... As for the guy who started this thread... Without money dude there is no performance... so I suggest you go get a job, start saving... :cheers:

plus, gutted out race interiors with a cage and racing bucket can look WAY sexy. looks purposeful.

so explain all these non-ricers who change their s13 240sx to a silvia front end and turn em into sileighty's, or better yet, the 180sx tails....

there is a fine line between ricers and non-ricers.. and now its going into the "personal taste" category and getting rediculous.

if i wanna put widebody fenders on my car... its cause I want to. If i wanna put some aero mirrors, its cause i want to...


but if i wanna put some altezza's cause my girlfriend and her sister think its cool, then that is sorta touching on the whole ricer thing.

all i know is that my chargespeed kit and custom widebody kit (designed by me ) is going on, and i dont care what anyone says.

Ralph - that's different. i'm an adament supporter of the all go no show cause, but you know my plans for my car. Sileighty with wangan wing, Kouki tails and a Japanese front bumper of some sort (haven't decided yet). but this will all be done AFTER i finish building up my engine and suspension. power and handling first, and THEN make the car look sexy. plus, most of the changes i plan to make would help the car's aerodynamics, as would yours. the Kouki tails wouldn't, but those aren't rice if they're on a 240SX so long as the rest of the 240SX is in top shape. the line is getting finer, but i just do what i want to my car and say "fuck what everyone else thinks".

I always thought that putting OEM body parts, such as 180 tails, or a "JDM" Kouki bumper or whatnot Wasnt rice, because its an OEM part and helps keep the look of your car consistent

In the case of a 180 Kouki bumper or Silvia K's bumper, since they have an I/C duct, it can marginally help the performance of your car.

Yeah man if you want cheap do it yourself performance, get an intake, or even suspension work is pretty basic if you want to improve the overall performance of you car... struts and springs are pretty straightforward... otherwise, filter and unbolting the exhaust if you're gangster
