sup guys...juss wondering if u could give me some advice. im soon to be getting a 95+ 240sx. i think i want to go a differnt route than the ka24de(t) or the sr20det swap. im thinking of goin naturally aspirated. so heres the thing i was wondering if there were any makers of a quad throttle body for the ka24de. i've been searching all night and i can't find any. also i would probably get high compression pistons, new rods, cam, rebuild my engine, ect. how much hp gains do u think i can get goin NA? also is turbo a cheaper and easier alternative? wat eles will i need to know about NA engines? Is there an other major NA engine component other then individual throttle bodies and high compression pistons?
thanks for ur help
thanks for ur help

you WILL be spending alot of money on this. the n/a route is hard as hell. a guy in my club is going this way and has dropped about 5g's into his car and he says he is only making about as much as a stock SR. maybe a little more but not much. he also said he should have done the swap.

ive spent 3500 and im running a flat 15.0, but mine's an auto
im thinking if its a stick i'd be running around 14.0. it's a lot cheaper than popping in an sr.

ok I'm looking for an estimated(or exact if possible) time for each of these set ups
KA24DE: add turbo, non-intercooled, manifold, ehaust, downpipe, intake
KA24DE: the above + intercooler and pipingg, BOV, wastegate, exhaust flange
SR20DET: exhaust, intake, downpipe, BOV
KA24DE: non-turbo, port and polish, pistons, cams, rods, exhaust, intake, downpipe
say they all have light weight flywheel with like a stage 2 clutch kit and a B&m short shifter and light weight tires and performance tires and abotu 1 1/2 drop with decent suspension(hopefully this gets rid of some variables)
also what about the 2 kits for the KA24DE they have here http://www.realnissan.com/faq.asp

ok, more details ...when doing the swap, don't just take it and put it in. Obviously check for a motor that has good compression. If not, make it so. Clean clean clean. check all, or change if budget allows, vacuum lines. make sure no leak in pipes, and around stock intercooler. if everything is working right. e.g. clutch not fried, bad turbo, etc. 13.8 is attainable. 14.0-14.2 is more likely. I am telling you from experience. We tested at Sacramento raceway, so our elevations may be different from yours. Also, for the previous question, an SR swap shouldn't take more than three days. Two if you don't have to take the SR out of a clip. Easy swap. KA24de(t), I can't say, because I have not done any. My friends integra, which in my opinion is harder to work on, took only one day to put on his drag turbo kit. But depending on level of knowledge and experience, this obviously will vary (sometimes greatly!):iceslolan

Actually Sr20 swaps are only 2500 bucks and 3000 for the front clips so that leaves 1000 or 500 in mods which would easly take out his N/A Single Cam.

LMAO 3500 to run 15
hehehe
if i spent 3500 i better be in the 13's
I ran 15.7 with a crappy exhuast, faulty clutch that was going out and bald tires
I figure put some low pros on it, the clutch was just changed
get the cold air intake, better exhuast, some headers, ported and polished i can get done for 200 on the head, or sometimes I see head withs high compression pistons for like 100-200 on ebay sometimes, and that leaves u wti a lot of money for misc mods wherever the fuk u want, u could even get some spray with that LMAO!
The only reason I would do an sr20det swap is because i have 150k miles
but even than, if im gonna spend that much money on a swap, ima just save up and do a 350chevy swap :-D VRRRROOOOOOOOOOM!

350 in a 240sx........ :spit:
hmmmm how about an old 327 or z28 302, that would be badass if you had to have a CSB. Getting a northstart to work would be badass, 300hp and that thing likes to rev, one of the best v8's I've abused.
if your gonna do something different, do something different...
so sick of hearing about 350's.... it isn't the end all engine and a 327 or a 302 will whip its ass and is a better engine for a road course.

a bone stock SR will run mid 14's. thats with stock exhaust etc. now, if you have a front mount intercooler, 3in. exhaust, boost controller, intake, and a new clutch......i've seen as low as 13.3. it was an s13 sr in an 89 240sx on stock tires.

will a v8 chevy engine even FIT into a 240sx, also even if it did, wouldnt an engine that heavy put too much weight on the front therefore causing the car to lose traction in the rear. just wondering...

yep people like drag racing with automatic turbo cars.... one good point is you don't loose boost during shifts..... with modifications such as a higher stall TQ, shift kit, coolerS, fans on them... it can be great, it is more consistent, with modifications it will shift as fast as a manual ever could, and no human error ever...
The downfall is holding your gear or downshifting when you want to in corners.....

Actually .4 seconds is a lot of time in the Drag Racing world. Shave time off your ET is not an easy thing to do. I went the wrong way with going N/A Single Cam with my civic and my fastest time is still a 15.79. I am going to over to Nissan Turbo so when I put mods on I actually gain horsepower.

NA and Turbo is just preference of the driver. I mean, outside of the drag world...i like NA a LOT more. Much better throttle response (and yes, turbos are getting better at this, but still). N/A just feels better. But it is really hard to get them really powerful, but well, its all preference and what you want to do with it.

well to each his own. i just love the feeling of boost when it kicks in hard, and its a continueing build up off power.
RScott
07-22-2003, 03:18 AM
fact of the matter is that NA has a wider usable powerband...BUT
with a turbo...your power band will have more...power
dollar for dollar
turbo is the way to go
granted it is expensive to go from NA to turbo...in the long run you will have more power than with the same dollar amount in an NA car...
then build that NA to the same power level as with the turbo...take that $$ and throw it in the turbo car and youll still have more power...the difference becomes exponential
turbo lag can be a pain in the ass and the car will be hard to drive. driving cars with large turbos is hard...thats why many of the 800-900 rwhp supra guys are stuck in the 11s and 12s
it takes a good driver to drive a turbo car...it takes a great driver to drive it well

There are some advantages and some disadvantages. The N/A has a faster reponse and the turbo for a little while you have a lag and you dont use up the horsepower as quick as the N/A. --Of subject-- One tokyo xtreme racer mr2 has 512 or something and nsx has 432. NSX IS WAY FASTER!!!

i want to run 12's... no way in hell i can do that with my car, and it being an auto. i'd have to start upgrading the engine... and its starting to have a lot of miles on it now. i think i should get rid of it ASAP
i think i can get 6500 around me... locally. 240s are rare cars around me, especially the one i have. i can get a modded one with sr20 swap and many extras including a body kit if i wanted one for around 8000... so for another 1500, basically the cost of just making my car a stick, i can have a whole other car with a lotta extras. im not sure yet, my car is being repaired tomorrow, and i wanna see how fast it is after that. if it is noticeable faster (low 15s) ill keep it and i might throw in a stick. if not i have to seriously think of selling it.
im not sure....  this is irritating. you really think i should keep this one? hmm maybe i should

somebody in here was talking about added weight a v8 adds to the front of the car..... some smart guy figured it out and with a Ford 302 with aluminum heads and all it was 40lbs more then the KA24.....40lbs can be taken down by removing battery to back, shit turbochargers arent pieces of tin foil shit either, those big ass t76 and t88 weigh about 80 lbs.... plus all the added piping, intercooler, BOV, wastegate, and extra lines just for the addition of a turbo.... it can take up some weight as well....
an extra 40 lbs is nothing, especially if you have some decent suspension mods.

Dude, keep the car. If you want a stick and more power, just swap an SR with a manual tranny. It'd be best to do it all at once. Youve already put so much into that car. Your car has decent suspension, and great looks, next step is a new engine. There is no need to start all over...waste of all the time you put into your current 240.

No, get a stick and KA-T. It will be a helluva lot easier to run 12s.

an old 302 z28 Chevy Small Block......
Edelbrock Torker Intake Manifold, Performer Carb, Cam and lifters, easy 300hp for a few hundred bucks....... easily in the 12's with traction.
About any v8 into a 240sx will get you in the 13's I would say, seems around 300hp is when people break into 12's and shit..... there are other cases though lol..... like Supras ha ha ha....
*edit*
I really like the idea of a 302 Chevy engine in a 240sx. Lets face it domestic engines aren't that bad, just a bit different.... its the cars that blow wind...... v8's into smaller nimble chassis has been a succesfull thing to do ever since they have been out. a S13 is a good platform for a v8, and many like the Z car v8 swaps as well. The 302 is an engine from Chevy that is just like a 350, or a 327, with different displacement, when you order parts all you need basically is small block chevy, tons of things interconnect. I don't really like 350's, 327's are a bit better. A 302 is a wicked v8 though. 4" bore..... 3" Stroke...... it was made for racing purposes in a homoglation type car(first z28's) the engine likes to rev and go high in the powerband...... I would love to see or make one myself, a 3-400hp 302 chevy into a 240sx...... I bet that thing could whip some major ass..

you can't fit v8's into a 240.... if you can please give me all specifics and i'd go and buy one this afternoon.
blue and corrupt.... do you know what you're talking about...... most of the money i put into my car went into performance. getting a whole new engine would change my whole car... and suspension upgrades i did are common on modded 240's. i can find a 12 sec 240sx with a body kit, paint job, decked out interior and suspension upgrades for around 8000. no way i can get into 12's with my n/a. i thought about water injection, i heard that rocks, but i prolly cant get more than 15-20hp from it.

I love all these Supra drivers, especially MK.III guys who think theyre the shit, because of these MK.IVs
Owning an Mk.IV is the only time you can say you have 600whp but you run 13s lol.

yay my car is running a lot better... i can finally take a 120 degree turn again going 35 without ramming into another car
it wasnt my tie rod end, my header was rubbing against my steering column... not good at all. i have a decent size spot in my header now.
at least it's fixed, and only costed $20 for the welding. if i had a freakin lift i would be able to do it myself.... i wonder how much one would be....

if ur talking hydraulic lift, my old boss got one used and installed for 4000 .. it was a nice lift, a little old, but in perfect working condition when oiled.
then he got an new one from snap-on it think, and it was like 6500 installed, and the snap on guys come and install it for u and everything
EDIT: also glad u got ur steering fixed.. now u can take it out for a boot and take some videos.
oh take pics of ur interior like where the center console runs between the seats.. and if u can, squeeze in the back an get me a pic of the two seats and the center console between the seats too...
i will have a mockup of a camera holster for u
