Is it illegal to flash your highbeams to warn of a radar trap?

Not that I know of. How would the cops ever be able to tell that was the reason why they were flashed? Could just have been an 'ooops my hand bumped the switch'

Its one of those things where you basically If you do it don't get caught doing it . I don't think they really like when people do do it i'm pretty sure they can give u a ticket for that .

No. When I see a speed trap, I always flash oncoming traffic so that they are aware. I've never heard or seen a case of someone being brought up on charges of flashing headlights. I wouldn't worry.

I dont think theres a "law" against it...at least not here.
It's just common curtisy to flash ppl, so they dont get busted. I do that all the time and have never been "busted" for flashing my beams.
I would consider it rude, to not be warned about a speed trap by someone who sees it.

Well, just recently, there was a case brought up in the news, about how a driver did this. He was cited for obstruction of justice. Go figure.

I flashed a cop once for fun, and he pulled me over. he came up to the window and said, "Why did you flash your high beams at me?" and I was like, "Uhh, yeah, I thought you didn't have your lights on". He knew I was just messing with him, and he didn't do anything, so I guess it's not against the law.

I did a search under AZ State laws and this the only thing I found regarding flashing your headlites:
A.R.S. 28-723
2. Except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted, the driver of an overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle on audible signal or blinking of head lamps at nighttime and shall not increase the speed of the overtaken vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle.
So if a cop ever busts me for flashing someone I will tell him this is the only statute saying anything about flashing h-lites. I'll make it even better by getting a new copy of the the A.R.S. book (I have an older one from when I used to be a law student).

My thoughts:
it all depends on what the police want to achieve: safer traffic or giving tickets...
If you flash your lights, you make the other drivers go within the speed limit, which is the government's understanding of maximum safety, right? So you make them drive more safely, and that, IMO, is what the cops are there for.
If you don't, they drive with higher speeeds and jeopardize the safety of traffic. But the police get to write the ticket...
Idiots!

I have heard of people being ticketed for warning of speed traps, etc. You can be brought up on charges of interfering with Police business and (as already established) obstruction of justice.
I know a guy who flashed a cop because the cop was driving with his high beams on, and he got a ticket for interfering with Police business. It is a shame that many cops abuse their authority, and give all cops a bad name, because there are definitely nice, good cops out there.

OOOOHHHH DDUUUDDEEE I'm with you 100%. Road etiquette is dead. People have become such schmucks behind the wheel. It really bothers me too.
...But we digress ;)

I know exactly what you mean! I flashed a car w/their turn signal on (and obviously trying to change lanes) to let them in infront of me, and they just sat there!!! How stupid!!!
And then people wonder why I like drafting off of semis when I go on road trips... they are (for the most part) the only real drivers left!!! (but don't get me wrong, some CDL drivers still can't drive  )

I think it is pretty pathetic that you can get done for obstruction. I had a good friend get done back in Chicago a few years ago for doing that.
I have done it here in New Zealand but flashed a cop at night. Not too long after arriving in New Zealand on my way home from work after 15 hrs I was ummmm driving in the wrong lane, thought the guy comming at me was so I flashed him. Being about 9:30pm I could not make the car out.
The cop flashed them back so I put mine on full for a short bit. He hit the over heads and the fun began. Thank god he was good natured and we had a bit of a laugh out of it and he followed me home to make sure I make it without killin someone hahaha.

Miss Angie,
Yesterday was busy as could be, so I couldn't get a full reply in.
We always referred to a Commercial License as a Class A or B. Class A you can drive everything. Class B is everything including buses, limo's etc.. as long as it doesn't have air brakes.
I used to hold a Class A license. Loved my job for the most part. I agree with you that most CDL holders are very professional drivers. The few you find that aren't are generally the guys/girls that have been pushing too hard for too long and they are just overly tired.
