I recently changed the oil on my '89 325is, and all appears ok, except the oil service light stays on all the time.

Help?!

Congratulations. You've just entered the market for an Oil Service Indicator reset tool. I had an '89 325i and discovered the same problem. I bought my reset tool from Peake Research and it worked great and went with the car to its new owner.

Check the above link for the solution to your problem. I understand that you can use jumpers on specific diagnostic port terminals but for my money, the key word there is "terminal" so I'm sticking with the people who do this stuff for a living.

As for the light, it's just a prompt to remind you to change the oil or perform a scheduled service. It's not an indicator of impending doom...unless of course you don't change the oil.

Try looking at Ebay. You can get a Reset Tool for around $138.00 including shipping for a Peake model. It also resets the check engine light. Or you can buy one ceaper for just the servce lights.

Hope this helps.

Try Ebay. you can get a Peake Reset Tool that will reset the service functions as well as the check engine light for $138.00 including shipping.
You can get the tool that resets just the service lights for about half if that is all you need.

hope this helps
