Hi all,
My factory boost guage stopped working one day, it worked when I got the car but isn't now. It hasn't been working for a while & was just wonderin if theres any easy/obvious things I cld check to c if it's the cause?

In the engine bay, there is a small black box attached to the firewall (drivers side), it's the boost gauge sender unit thingy. It will have a small rubber hose connected to it, which should go to the plenum chamber. Check that it is connected at both ends and has not been split or have a leak or blocked.

Thanx 4 tht, it was just the hose had come off the plenum :)
however the guage is spose to read -7 when idling isn't it? mine is just under the 1/2 way mark between -7 & 0, it also goes up to 3/4 the way between 0 & 7 at full boost (factory) which would b just under 1/2 way if the guage started off @ -7. I guess there probably isn't any easy way to fix this, but if there is it wld b much appreciated.
cheers

i have the same problem with mine, i read somewhere that the factory boost gauges just aren't that great. i'll be getting an aftermarket one to check the factorys.

The factory boost gauge on all Skylines even up to the 34 are crap. They are actually a fairly accurate digital gauge, but the proble is there are no accurate markings on the gauge and no one understands mm of Mercury anyway.

I'd tap in a new boost gauge, even a good mechanical one will do. Pricol make a cheap but reliable gauge for about $50 AU.

FYI, +7mm works out to be around 14psi.

If your read the gauge carefully, its +700mm not 7mm and that works out to 0.9332566 bar or 13.53574 psi.

Just being pedantic

All right! I concede. But if you can read those gauges to within half a psi, or to within 5 psi for that matter, you've got better eyes than I!

hee hee.. no, I cant either. All me knows is that if it is above the top mark then its too much boost (for now) and if its below its too little boost ;)

So my GTR is boosting to just over the half way mark on the plus side. Not much boost but still goes alright haha.

I'd say that you still have the boost restrictor in place, which restricts the RB26 to about 9 or 10 psi. Send me an email and I'll tell you how to get rid of it.

Without it you get about 14-15 psi.

The gague works the same way as a brometer. 760MM of mercury is equal to atmospheric preasure at see level or about 14.7 pounds per square inch.
