Lx vs Gt

i was just wondering if anyone knew the ET's on a same year lx and gt from 87-93

my friend is trying to tell me that the lx will always be .5 faster than the gt due to the extra weight from the kit on the gt. Is there any truth in this?

LX are the Notchbacks right? Ive also been hearing that the notches are faster because theyre lighter, I personally like the hatches better. The Notchs look a little ugly to me :dunno:
Even if its lighter, i wouldnt think itd shave 5 tenths...
General rule...shaving 100lbs = .1 in the quarter mile.
Dont the 5.0s run High 14s(good driver) and average low to mid 15s? :dunno:

Theoretically a LX should be faster then a GT, cause of the weight factor. An LX coupe (notchback) is even far lighter then the other two and should be able to run the quickest of all three. But driver skill, track conditions, car options and other variables will effect the outcome of a 1/4 mile timeslip. Manual Fox's should run mid to high 14's stock, auto's should be around high 14's to low 15's stock. Now I have also read about stock motor Notch's running 13's with just suspension mods. I don't know about a whole 1/2 second between LX's and GT's though, that sounds like a little much, seeing there's only a few hundred pounds difference. For example, a 1989 GT's curb weight is 3,194 lbs, a 1989 LX hatchback's curb weight is 3,110 lbs, and a 1989 LX notchback's curb weight is 3,045 lbs. This is info is straight out a mustang portfolio, and and are rough weights, exact weights will vary slightly by car options and by year.

LX hatch weighs 60lbs more than LX coupe. GT hatch weighs 20lbs more than LX hatch.

The range between LX coupe 5spd and GT hatch auto is about 150lbs.

There isn't enough difference in weight to give a clear advantage to one or the other. the GT and the LX hatches are more aerodynamic than the coupes and that makes a big difference when speeds climb up above 80mph.

The LX coupe's chief advantage is rigidity.

When comparing hard tops there is only a couple hundred pounds difference at most. The real weight differences come from comparing a hard top to a convertible. A regular GT weighs approx. 300lbs less than a GT Conv, which when you think about it; is a lot of weight! There is almost a 400lb difference between the LX coupe and GT Conv. Especially if the LX coupe has a T-5, and the GT Conv has an AOD.... Talk about a weight difference of hundreds of pounds!

UUUUUUHHHHH you guys forgot about the most important part---The motor. The 5.0 HO on the gt was supposed to have a higher compression ratio than the regular 5.0. I dont know the exact difference but Im sure its a big enough difference to make the gt faster.

The 5.0 found in 86-93 mustangs were all H.O. motors. The regular 5.0's were found in trucks and other ford cars.
