Hi Folks I just searched the net in desperation after "fixing" my car for the billionth time.(So it seems)
Its A 86 Taurus with the electronic dash readout, V6 4dr with the leather trim.
Maybe IM just stubborn, I feel like I repaired everything but it keeps dieing.

Latley its is Just like a vapor lock - all the symptoms.
After driving on freeway for about 50 minutes I come to a slow section and let off on the gas, then there is a Loss of power (all the sudden) if you feather the throtlle lightly it may go again but ussually dies.

Backfire and sputters - pull off and let it rest and she starts right up again (after a few minutes) - first time I noticed there was a vacum built up in the gas tank - thought it was vapor lock had to check.
SO this time out I made sure gas cap was vented real well.
It still occurred.

Previous issues include this same mystery dying routine, but the Fan Sensor quit - replaced that radiator fan now works again.

A strange noise could be heard when it refused tostart and that came from the little Barometric Absolute Pressure sensor on the firewall. (its been replaced as well..) But I heard it freakingout yet again.
On attepted restart I can hear the fuel pump come on then stop as normal but I hear a short vibrating type sound from the diaphram in the BAP sensor trying to controll whatever then it stops.

SO Anyone know a solution for me other than drive my car off a bridge?

First thing I'd do is pull up any codes stored in the EEC-IV computer. There is an excellent description of how to do this at www.tempotopaz.com Just click on "EEC-IV Codes" at the left of the screen, and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You might have a bad TPS sensor. The EEC will tell you for sure.

You can get the factory service manual from Helm, Inc. at www.helminc.com or something like that. $70 or so will get you a manual that's 4 1/2" thick. That's what I did for my '87 Taurus wagon. It's well worth it. Covers absolutely everything!

Another good resource is www.tauruscarclub.com if you haven't found them yet.

Keep us posted! :smile:

ok two things to check on this;
1: the fuel filter. it may be partialy clogged. it should be replaced as a maintenance item about every 10k miles i believe.
2: the TFI module. when it starts to fail, it will cause this exact problem when it overheats. it has been a thorn i fords side almost since the modules were first installed. they are cheap enough so that if you have not yet replaced it, replace it. if you did replace it, and you didnot use the dielectic silicon grease that should have been supplied with the module, replace the module as it has likely overheated and gone bad. the silicon grease is used the aid heat transfer to the dist body.
if these turn out ok, then check your fuel pressure at idle and at speed, as these symptoms can indicate a failing fuel pump as well. if you decide to pull the codes fromt he computer, you also need a manual to tell you what tests need to be performed, as the codes only tell what circuit is being affected, NOT what part is bad.
