Hey guys i want to know what would be better to do to my 82 camaro

Should i save up and supercharge it i have a 2.8 v6 under the hood now.
Or should i save up and get a 350 and put that under the hood?? But o herd if i did put a v8 in there i would have to cut into the body is that true. Also would it be a bitch to get it to pass smog?

well to tell you the truth if you wanted power you should have started of with the 350, it would have made life allot easier. T

here shouldn't be a problem droppin in a 350, because the car came wit that engine as an option.

Also, passing emmision isnt that hard. Just keep it in mind when ur shopping for ur block. Look for street legal or emmision tested on the stuff u buy for it. Aside from that keep the cam and headers a mild as possible and there shoudn't be a problem.

True it would have made life easier. But in 82 the only V8 available was a 305 however as we all know its a sbc so its all the same for bolting in. If all you guys have is the sniffer test just make sure you dont run anything bigger than a RV cam..a small carb 600cfm (or Quadrjet) or so and put cat-converters if its needed to pass. You could go bigger on the cam and lean the carb out. I almost passed emissions in my 79 with a decent sized cam comp cams 270. I was just lazy and got a new engine cause mine was tired. The mounts should be similar with the 2.8 if not take some mounts of a 82 z28. Good luck

Small block! 3rd gen V6's are junk. They pull alright in something small like an S-10 but there still junk. plus, a small block would be a better bragging right than a blown V6.

Beer cans are too usefull, maybe pennies

Anyways, the v6 camaros are like the black sheep of the family. The 82 wasnt the nicest camaro either. I say sell It and get anything with a v8. The last thing to do is put a blower on the v6. (It will sound like an import) Not only will the import peeps laugh at you for runnin a v6 camaro, not only that ,but the real men (Us muscle car dudes) will also distance ourselves from you cause your car sounds like an import.

hey 4onfloor,

I know v6 camaros are junk but.........MINE ISN'T
The only reason it has a 6 is cuz my dad didnt want me to put any to fast in there for me. O and when we bought ya it was junk but after we were finished with it. It was and still is cherry. Also seeing how all the 2 years of work i put into it i fig that i would want to keep it and just put a bigger engine in it.Oand hey big block chevy, puting a blower on it i never wanted to do that i know it would sound like a import ( which to me sounds like someones ass) thats the one thing i would never do, i hate imports. I do have flows on it though and they do sound badass cuz my car is not fuel injected so i sounds good, not like all of the new camaro v6's sounds like if they put flows on cuz of the fuel injection they sound horrible. O and im not trying to sound like an ass or anything so plz dont take this the wrong way. But ya i also wanted to ask how long till a car doesn"t have to get smogged?

fist u would be better off getting a v8 350 as i learned the hard way i once had a 84 2.8 firebird (LC1)(i had a full cat back, freeflow cat, and a flowmaster>you r right the carbed v6s sound way better the FI v6. people always thought i had a 8 in there) anyway if u can get your self a doner car with a destroyed body but good v8 engine for next to nothing it would be a easy swap, dont forget u just arnt gunna be changeing the block. u need a v8 tranny, rad, and engine mounts and a bunch of lil stuff it u only got a v8 block to go with. your car is a 83 so its carbed, that makes the swap so easy if u go 350 carb. so i say if your car is in good shape and u luv it then get a doner car and do the swap (stay carb!) the blower would be kool also but not really worth it. there is a very good place to get info on anything about fbodys >>>www.thindgen.org
good luck!

hey CamaroFreak82, I'm not trashing your V6 i'm just going on experience. I've worked on em, and I've also worked on small blocks. And compared to a small block they are junk. IMHO the only good 6's that GM made were the inlines (250, 292 etc.) and the 4.3L. I suppose if you treat it good and keep the oil changed it'll be a good motor. But V8's run smoother, being that they fire closer together. And they'll stand higher miles a lot better than a 2.8

well i dont agree with u on v8s getting higher miles, i had the same motor as this guy and i had well over 300k and was still running strong as hell went i let her go. it not once left me standing and nothing really broke on it ever. i feel that engine was one strong lil engine, i miss it like crazy lol. but your right it was in no way fast, but i still luved it.
