Two-Stroke Tuners Help!!

I recently got a 1979 Vespa Piaggio Grande moped, and I've been having some trouble getting to run well.

I did all the maintenance that the manual suggested short of taking off the head and pulling the carb.

The problem is that after all the work, the engine will idle but dies as soon as you give it any throttle it dies. If I continuously try and keep it running, the plug gets wet and then it wont start at all. Is this a sign that it's running rich when i give it gas? :bloated:

I have a feeling that there could be a buildup of crap in the carb and air cleaner because the moped hadn't really been started in 18 years or so. I've tried to take off the carb but as of yet I cant figure out if or how it comes off. Is there anything I can do that doesn't really require dismantling the carb?

This is really my first experiance with a 2-stroke engine and I'm at a loss. :bloated:

Any help is very much appriciated.

Hey, how long has it been sitting? And have you put a new sparkplug in (or at the very least, filed and gapped the old one?) Also is the air cleaner connected? (or is the exhaust clogged?) Alot of different things can cause what you're describing.
