I bought a 96 jetta for 2k from a guy who said the transmission was shot, so I go on his word and bought another one to put in the car, and this one is doing the same thing the other one was doing, Put the car into drive and it starts off in 2nd gear it will not change into 3rd either, reverse is fine, sometimes it wont go into any gear at all. If anyone has experienced this problem or know what is going on pleeeaaaassseeee help:confused:

A follow up on the personal message I sent you.
The service bulletin for a 96' VW Jetta transmission is located at ALLDATA Tech Rx or http://www.alldata.com/service_provider/techrx/2002/200201212j.html
if there is an error with that address, just go to ALLDATA.com.
Another option for your tranny is of course a new/rebuilt one. But that is an expensive fix. My only other practical tip would be to get a diagnostic run on your Transmission Control Module (TCM or transmission's computer). It might cost a couple of bucks but they can tell you if it is an easy fix or not! Hope this helped.
