alcohol injection?!?

A friend of mine told me about alcogol injection the other day. He said somebody he knows uses it. How does it work? Is it better for your engine than NOS ? what would happen if you add alcohol to your fuel right in the gastank?(this might be a stupid question but i've heard of people doing that too)
I just want some information about the whole alcohol injection thing.

From what i understand it's more for people running a boosted application. It runs through your intake, kinda spraying like nitrous. It's helps cool down the intake temps and allows you to run more boost on pump gas or other gases. It sounds like a really good idea. I believe alot of the guys/gals running grand nationals use this setup and make great power.

i assume that it does about the same thing as the NX kit that fires co2 directly on your intercooler, basically just to make more boost available on pump gas.

I guess so, but much more cost effective. About 300 for the kit. And all you do is mix alcholor and water 50/50 and your ready to go. Nitrous is to expensive.

It will destroy your injectors in a small amount of time, The alcohol will dry out the rubber O-Rings in the injectors and before you j=know it you car will be smoking like a diesel.

You never want to mix water in your gas tank. Over time it will rust the insides of your combustion chambers. Besides theres a reason people run alcohol in their cars b/c they're only used for the track and being rebuilt every 1/4 mile or so

Aluminum does not rust and it is ok to have a aqua mist kit for ppl running alot of boost to keep the det. down, the water will be vaporized as soon as it gets into the combustion chamber. But yea don't poor it into the gas tank b/c the car won't run LOL:biggrin:

50/50 mix of alcohol and water will prevent detonation to a much higher boost on pump gas. Cheap setup for this is to use a plastic or aluminum tank that will handle whatever boost your running without splitting open. Has to have a neck for refilling, a 3/8 hose at the top, and 3/16 or so hose at the bottom. You make a jet for the small hose and spray the mix into the turbo, where it is atomized and goes into the engine. The large hose is attached somewhere that it will receive boost, so the tank will be pressurized and cause the small hose to spray into the turbo. The jet is about the size of a pin hole. Larger for more boost. Be careful that the 3/8 hose never comes in contact with the water in the tank, or engine vacuum could suck up to much and hydrolock your engine. Mount the tank low to prevent unwanted siphoning. My setup cost me about six bucks.

To spray it in your intercooler would be all right but like he said what would happen if he puts in his gas tank. Yeah it would mess up his injectors plus by running alcohol in his combustion chambers the heat created by alcohol will melt his rings over time. Lets go back to chemistry class alcohol is more flamable than fuel, which creates greater heat. Not good for the street(unless you hav deep pockets to rebuild it every time you run) but all right if its a track whore and rebuilds it every 1/4 mile or so

you amateurs....that is not how you set up an alcohool injection......
























you take the mix and set up a direct port injection into your veins.....this way you'll become a better driver and become iresistible to chicks

Eum.. I don't know about alcohol injection but I do know that up here in sweden people pour alcohol in their gastanks on a regular basis during winter to prevnt ice-clogs in the fuelsystem, so it can't be all bad for your engine.
But, that is aprox 1-2 percent alcohol / petrol mix that reaches the engine, I don't have experience with higher concentrations than that but some people do use ( I think, not shure ) up to a 5 percent mix to get a little extra boost, the alcohol most prefered is methanol..
I don't know what octane levels your petrol has, but up here we run 95,96 and 98 percent..

Sort of, but you're injecting alcohol and water INTO your motor and is about 10 times more effective at reducing IAT's and letting you run more boost than that N-tercooler junk.

Outsidethebox, I wouldn't recommend a mechanical pressure alcohol injection kit, as you get TERRIBLE atomization of the alcohol and water. If you want to go DIY you can pick up a shurflow 60 psi pump from northernessentials.com and use a hobbs switch to turn it on at X amount of PSI. I helped install a snowperformance.net kit on my friends twin turbo mustang a week ago, and he got less knock @ 22 psi and 92 octane with alky than he normally does with 22 psi and 110. He has their dual nozzle kit, 100 psi pump, and is running dual 625 ml/hr nozzles with a 6-gallon fuel cell supplying the kit. With those nozzles and a 6 gallon cell it should last him for over 18 minutes of straight spraying, or a few weeks between fillups. Just to give you an idea of how effective this is, on normal pump gas (92 octane) he could only run 15-16 pounds of boost before he would start getting some knock and pulled timing.
