Once again me and my friend were talking about cars. And the subject of performance chip came up. He claims that it will boost him up around 80-100 hp to his 2000 VW Passat.
True?
True?

chips on small motors like that will get u maybe 10-12 hp at the most. the performance chips for v8's will get maybe 30 hp. i saw a turbo diesel truck that had a new ecu with a chip on it and it made almost 200 more ft/lbs of torque no if only that worked for hondas.......

BTW - your friend was definately exhaggerating...
But a 2000 Passat with the 1.8T engine with ONLY an ECU chip from GIAC, Upsolute, APR, Autotech, or Neuspeed would gain between 30 and 44HP at the crank depending on the chip.
He may have been thinking about the Stage III APR chip and kit, which will up the total horsepower by about 85-90Hp...but that includes more than just a chip.
A normally aspirated engine, such as the Passat with the 2.8 30-valve V6 would only be able to get 5-10HP from a chip. But the 1.8T, though a small engine, can still yield high horsepower because of the tunability of the turbo.

they varie in what they can do. for example most revove rev limited, and the speed governor. for automatics the can change shirt points for the transmition. the can modify the fuel map to get more fuel into the engine. they can change a lot all depends on what one you get and for what car you have.
