Hello, new girl here...

Hey there, I was wondering if anyone on this planet has had any trouble with there 2001 VW Cabrio. I absolutely love my car, but have had so many problems with it that I may claim the Lemon Law unfortunately...

Also, does anyone know anything about thier extended warenty with "Smart Choice" being cancelled because they went bankrupt???:confused:

lemon law only applies if you've had the same problem 3 times and it wasn't fixed all 3 times. all cars have problems, it depends on how well YOU take care of your car.

What, you think that I don't know how to care for my car??? That the unrelated problems that I have been having with my vehicle are somehow my fault...not all girls are completely blank on car knowledge...thanks a lot for your help

i didn't say you didn't know what you were doing or that your stupid, i just said that how well your car runs is directly proportional to how well you take car of it.

i also explained the lemon law to you, check the recall notices for your car, make sure they've been taken care of, i don't know of anybody having extensive issue's with their cabriolet, how many miles do you have on it?

What kinds of problems in particular?

I'm not aware of any problems with the extended warranty company, I'll have to look and see what I have.

The 2001 appears to be hit or miss. I think those built early in the model year have problems,
those built later do not (I'm guessing since my 2001 knock on wood was later in the year and does
not seem to exhibit the problems others describe).

One of the problems I've noticed is that the front driver side tire has a hard time keeping pressure.
It would seem it is a tire issue but the tires have been rotated and every tire has had the problem.
Are you having that problem by chance? It's noticeable in that there's a little pull to the car.

Other than that I love my car. One of the few convertibles my 6'5" frame can fit in and I'm willing to
drive. American convertibles stink styling wise, with a possible exception to the new Thunderbird, but
that appears to be more of a mid-life crisis car.

Anyway, I did my research on the car and decided to take a chance, so far so good. I'm curious to
know if your problems match up with what others have had.

they have recall info and repair, and troubleshooting steps that are more indepth than a bentley or hayes manual... go go go girlie go...

#1 The reliability of an automobile isn't always reflected by how someone takes care of it. I had a '95 Jetta (bought new) and I complied with EVERY maintenance schedule as spelled out in the user's manual and I still had TONS of trouble with that car. I loved it but it just never ran well.

#2 Lemon laws vary from state to state. The 'law' isn't 3 incidents with the same thing that weren't fixed. It's different everywhere.

Well Vw do have problems you know by now that the 2001 back thru 1999 electric window regulators and motors have been redesigned. VW lost a calss action law suit on this. If you have window problems call VW customer service and ask for your free window motors. Your wheel leaking problem is common on all cars with aluminum wheels. Their is a grease made that goes on the bead of the tire that seals the bead and also helps prevent the aluminum from corroding at the bead area. Tel the garage to break the beads apply the grease for the bead it is speacial little packets sold at the whel stores if your mechanic does not know about it yet. Also if you cgo to edmunds.com they have a section under each model car that list the general itmes for the problems for each vehicle year and the VW service letter or bullutin that applies to that problem. I had a problem with my wifes Jetta rear brakes. The pads wore out at 18000 miles. I wrote to VW and complained that this was not normal. They paid me after I did the pad changes they also paid me for the speacial tool you need to reset the rear disc brake calipers. My local VW dealer did not know how to reset the rear brake calipers so I called the next county over VW dealer and the mechanics there showed me how to do it in about three minutes. If you think something is not right complaine to everyone with in ear shot. It gets results. Happy Driving
