Clutch engagement ... ?

Hi guys, needs some advice.
Here is the scenario, was just replacing the struts on the car this weekend and repairing a CV boot. Had to run to the local auto store to pick some stuff for the rear end and when I was rolling out of the lot all of a sudden the GO got up and WENT.
Got the car back to my dad's garage and we jacked up the car. The car starts up fine. Both wheels spin in gear, even when the car is off. When you put it in gear while the car is running, you can here a sound where the tone changes as the gears change. All this without pushing in the clutch.
I did a search earlier and someone mentioned that the splines may be gone. Which splines would this be? The ones on the transmission or the ones on the clutch hub? The clutch was just replaced a little over a year ago with a dynapack. I don't drive all that spirited, considering the car is still stock.
Any other ways to check what else may be wrong? It seems like the clutch is stuck "off" the flywheel and it won't transfer the power from the engine to the wheels. Will be pulling the transmission later this week anyways.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, it sounds like your going in the right direction. It may be the splines, but maybe the clutch or pressure plate failed. Good Luck.
