I want to swap a new engine into my 91 Civic DX. I was wondering what would be the best engine for me? I will probably have $2500 to work with and my car is entirely stock other than the fact im sitting on 17".
Can you guys and gals out there help me with my decision. What what would be the advantages of the b16a over the ZC. etc. I'm losing my mind on all this Engine stuff !!!!
How fast is a B16a really ?! Compared to other cars out there ? How fast would be 91 civic dx be w/ a B16a in it ?!?!

seriously, i dont mean to be rude, but use the search function please. this question is the most asked question in the history of mankind.
im sorry, not to be rude, but really man, it gets on my nerves, as well as 98% of other people on this board having to read this exact same post 400 times a day.

hey thanks for the reply you really helped me out. jerk. so you want me to sit around sifting through threads hoping my question gets answered or maybe i should just ask the question hoping someone would help? Thanks again. See the rumors are true, Civic owners are all egotistical. I should go and buy a Prelude or something...
Now can anyone please help. shit man i even said please !

o you want me to sit around sifting through threads hoping my question gets answered
YES
it will take about 1.2 seconds to find the answer to this question 100 times.
go to the box at the top that says "search" then type in "b16 swap"
....

we all get tired of debates over zc vs b16 and which engine should i swap and what not. thats why we tell you to search instead, cause this does get asked way too much.
personally i wouldnt go either zc or b16, d-series i rather go sohc vtec and b-series i'd go b18c. Are you going to swap it yourself? if so you can do a b16 swap if you want that. If you will not be doing the swap yourself, i'd reccommend going with zc because the labor will be cheaper.

What, you should just type in a question and we should all answer it with all our opinions, knowledge, and experiences all over again just like we all have dozens of times in the past? Jerk.
The search button is there for a reason. If you're too lazy to try and learn something yourself, why would we want to help?
Go buy a prelude.

this is the first time i've ever complained about re-posts, but seriously. this question gets asked more than any other question besides "which engine should i put in my hatch"
you probably woudln't even have to use the search function, just scroll back one page and i bet you would find this exact post.
"b16 advantages??" shit like that

i agree, even if you scroll to the bottom of the first page here, you will prolly find a debate as to what should i put in my car, its been asked way too much and us veterans, cant take it anymore.

Mods - can we please have a FAQ thread stickied which a few of us could post this sort of stuff to? It'd make a nice difference to these threads. I'll happily do one on torque and HP and V-tech :comprage1
To quickly answer the original pot (because I'm only an arsehole 98% of the time):
My car has had it's B16A in it since it left the factory. Original motor, 248,000kms on the car - engine taken to 8000 regularly, driven in Sydney traffic as well as regular 2000+km interstate runs to Melbourne and it still runs like a dream (except when a brake line goes, but that's not a B16A issue).
It has to be one of the freest revving motors I've driven in 19 years of owning cars and while the ZC was always a favourite of mine (and still is), it just doesn't compare if you stick them next to each other stock.
The only downside is that whiney-bitch haters come up with lame ass reasons as to why your motor is a waste of time :comprage1

No one has really helped me out with my question. Thanks anyways to the people who actually attempted to help. For you others, I tried searching and found a few that helped me, thanks to you bastards too.
The reason I ask these questions is because I'm weighing my options between a 95 Honda Del Sol VTEC, 94 Prelude Si or VTEC, or just keep my 91 Civic DX (instead of selling it) and just go on with an engine swap, probably a b16a. I won't be doing the swap myself, my mechanic will, so that means I'd have to pay for labor, so I don't know what my best bet would be on an engine swap.....
What are my options of engines ?? For example, I know of the ZC, B16a, but what else is there that I can drop in with engine mounts ?
I'd appreciate it if people actually respond and not send me to search, I will try that a little more, but don't respond with telling to go search. Thanks for your help ppl.

i think you should buy a dodge gemini. an 87 to 89. you just seem like you would really enjoy that car! :icon16:

there aren't that many motors really, and if you don't know the few that are out there, then you don't deserve to have one at all, stick with the gemini :loser:

I would also encourage you to search (partially because you'll find deeper answers and there is a crapload of them) but i'll throw a my 2 cents.
For a car as light as the 4G, the ZC is probably the best dollar / enjoyment ratio unless you want a really high performance car. Even with 130 HP and a 5 speed, it'll be very quick. It's also much easier to swap and requires fewer parts.
When I say ZC, I'm referring to the twincam ZC. The singlecam ZC will be a modest (although significant) boost in performance over your D15 / DPFI - from 92 HP to around 118 HP.
Here's a little chart.
D15B2 / DPFI - 92 HP / 89 Trq
D16A6 / MPFI - 108 HP / 100 Trq
SOHC-ZC / MPFI - 118 HP / 102? Trq
DOHC-ZC / MPFI - 130 HP / 107 Trq
B16A / MPFI - 160 HP / 111 Trq
Hope that helps...
