Hi guys, I recently bought an apparent 2nd generation B16A engine that came out a 1992 Integra Xsi with 170hp output, that's what the japanese guy (the seller) told me. This is my first swap and a friend of mine who started helping me with the swap told me that this engine was not a 2nd gen B16A, it was the 1st gen because the engine came with PGM-FI written on the Intake Manifold and the DOHC vtec on the valve cover, ok I called the japanese and he replied that the DOHC vtec and the PGM-FI stuff had nothing related with the generation of the engine, he told me to check the serial number and the serial number of the engine starts with 12, it means the 1.2 million series so I checked in the "JDM B16 Spotting" thread in this forum and according to this it was produced in 1992 but the distributor uses two connectors just like the 89-91 series, so guys I need your opinions on this because I'm a little confused now and I really need to be sure about it, to get my money back because I paid $1500 just for the longblock.

i think you friend is right. when i got my b16a sir2(second-gen) it didn't have pgm-fi on the intake manifold and the letters on the valve cover were dohc VTEC. the b16a sir2 has grey plugs and if you look at the serial # it should start with a 5 representing the 5 million series. if you motor has white harness plugs and the #'s start with a 12 then you got a first gen b16a. also $1500 is way too much for a long block. on h motors you can get a b16a sir2 block for $900 and a first gen longblock for only $450

If you look on the head there are three round seals that have numbers on it. One of the seals has the year of production but yes it sounds like you have a 1st gen. I found this on some random site.

thanks a lot guys I will take a look tomorrow at those seals on the head to finally discover the exact year of this engine, and of course ask for some part of the money back.
