engine swap

Hey i am thinking about just swaping my engine instead of just rebuilding it because it cheaper. I dont know if i should get the b18c1 or the b18c5. I like NA but i am into turbo or sc because the power increase is so easily increased. But i think the b18c5 you cant have ac and it gets pretty hot some time and i like the ac so which one should i get. If i get one of them i am also going to bore it out to 2.0. Which one would be better for this.

Do it to the C1. The C5 is a NA motor and IMO costs just too much to get that extensive with mods.

What engine is in your car now?
If you bore one of these engines out you are going to rebuild it. With all the money your going to have into buying it, building it, and swapping it you could build a serious engine (whatever you have now)with that kinda $$$.

i found from jdmhonda on partstrader.com that i can get a b18c1 for 2100 with tranny ecu and a startup warrenty and the engine has less then 45k on it which in imo is new. i got the b18c1 which i belive is the gsr engine the b18c5 is the type r. But ever rebuild kit i have found cost 1975 give or take a couple 100. So i figure why pay 1975 for a rebuild kit and pay someone to do the work. The rebuild is above my compablities. so i have to pay someone to do the work. I just figure its cheaper that why. But if i am wrong and someone know how to rebuild a engine that would help me and know a cheaper why to rebuild the engine please tell me.

i got a b18c1 if that is the one in the 94 gsr

$1975 for a rebuild kit :eek7: My god that is outragous, you could build it with forged internals and everything for that much, probably less:smile:

yea i know that is alot if you know of some other site with cheaper rebuild kits that would help. But if there is not one i will just buy the engine and bore that one out.

There isn't really any kit. You have to buy each part seperate.
I suggest you sleeve the block, and just use 85 mm sleeves. I'm not sure what displacement that will give you but it's a big improvement over the stock 81 mm bore.
After you sleeve get JE pistons and Eagle rods. Run 9:1 compression, and boost it big time. Run about 18 PSI, intercooled of course. I would recommend a REVHARD turbo kit, they are about the best out there right now. Upgrade your fuel system and get Hondata. Also run a minumum of 2.5'' exhaust (3'' is optimal) and you should be making 300 horses to the wheels.
Oh and I forgot to mention to rebuild the head with good stuff. You might want to think about a port and polish and 5 angle competition valve job while you're at it.

No not the turbo . To REbuild the engine is that all i need to do.

If any of you guys can tell me what i need to buy to rebuild my engine that would help. I am also planning on bore it out to a 2.0l engine because some guy said if you going to rebuild it you should bore it out. Sounds like a good idea i just have no idea on what all the parts i need to do this.

You might want to think about getting a good set of cams. Crower makes really good cams.
Other than that, you need 85 mm sleeves, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, and everything to rebuild the head, and of course someone with the right experience to install everthing. Like I said before you might want to get a P&P job. While you're at it install a better oil pump.

i found this site where they do all the work and supply the parts to bore it out to 2.0 and rebuild it but it cost 4k that sounds right for the labor and everthing to me. But if that is not right then tell me.

if you you are gonna bore it out to a 2.0 then try and find a B20. they are cheap but kinds hard to put in. they have a lot of torque and all u need to do is put a vtec head on it and ur good to go. :iceslolan

Take the 2 grand. Drop it off at a shop and get a rebuild with some forged pistons/rods. It's a better deal. Also I bought a JDM engine. One of those 30k engines. It was more jacked up than my 115k Integra and this was a low reving B20 off an auto station wagon in Japan. You'd think the thing would have been in good condition. Oil all in the intake manifold. Good think I was ripping it apart anyways.
