Mustangs have always been one of my favorite cars (el camino's too ;)
Now I am finally 16 years old and its time to get my first car. Unfortunately I'm not exactly going to be getting ANY help at all from my parents, im sure a lot of you know how that is, and I was wondering what you guys would recommend that i do.
I have been working for about the past month at a FF restaurant and i have about 450 cash right now with another check on the way. However i have an uncle who has already told me that he might be able to help me out a little, he's somewhat rich.
My questions are basically, which mustang would you recommend me buying that is within my price range (lets say 2,500 and under)? I need to know if there are anythings that i need to watch for when shopping for used stangs. I have always been partial to the pony's from around 88 - 93. With the 5.0 of course ;). Where are some good places to shop for used cars on the web? Also, does anyone know of dealerships that finance 16 year olds? I heard one time about a dealership somewhere that had some sort of Student Plan or something, does anyone know anything about those?
Just anxious to get a car before junior year. You all know how that is.
Any advice would be helpful

If had my 5.0 when I was 16, I would not be typing this right now.
You should be able to get a decent older 5.0 for that price, but you are going to have to shop around, don't jump on the first one you look at, and take a friend with you that knows something about cars. Play good cop, bad cop it works:biggrin:
You being the good cop, and your friend pointing out all the bad areas of the car, so you can talk the person down on their asking price.
I am sure some of the other guy will chime in.
Good luck

Use what you have as a down payment and get a used 5.0 or a v6 (96 to present). Monthly payments won't nearly be as bad.

First off, welcome to the board nimrateus, we're here to help.
Now to the topic. I would have to say you can get a fairly decent FOX body 5.0 (87-93) for around $2500. This would be the ideal years for you anyway. Cheap, fast, old but not too old, and easy to work on. I don't know where your from, but around here we have a magazine called "the wheeler dealer" with lots of private sellers getting rid of vehicles pretty cheap in it. I'd look for something like that in your area. Also classifieds in local newspaper, and just browsing though dealers parking lots. I like Skylines, "good cop, bad cop" idea, It really works! Also like he said, don't jump the gun and buy the first car you see. Take your time and learn a little bit about the cars first.
Good luck, Craig.

for 2500 its not likeley that youre going to find anything newer than a 93. if i were your age and budget, i would get a FOX body GT 5-0, manual tranny. dont watch too many movies and bring it to street races the first night you get it or something. alot of kids get mustangs for the purpose of racing them, and if youre going to race, practice at a track. to find a good car around you no matter what kind it is, go to www.autotrader.com .
