I own a 96 Honda Accord EX Vtec i-4, and i was wondering at what RPM's does Vtec kick in? i've heard 4,500 but they werent sure, also, is there anyway i can make Vtec kick in at lower RPM's of my choice? I would like to move it back to 3,500 if indeed it is currently 4,500, thanks for your help

in the 4cyl case the VTEC does not engage at the same RPM, the engagement rpm changes cause the ecu is monitorint he intake manifold pressure. the temperature, etc, etc and then it sets the VTEC.

on the V6 cause the engage ALWAYS at the same rpm in the J30A1 is at 3500RPM.

again in your engine you have to listen to it, cause it changes it could be anywhere from 3100 to 3900, but i not sure, you can find that info in the owners manual:D

theres no specific rpm for vtec to engage

ps you can always buy an APEXi VAFC and set the rpm that you want the VTEC to engage/disengage :D that is a very nice toy the apexi

DavidG... question. Do you know the lowest RPM a V-Tec safely can kick in? And what is the best RPM to set the APEi? THX.

By engaging vtec early you will not see any gains unless you are running a wild cam setup. It will either cause you to lose top end power or the motor will stumble on its struggle to get up to the proper rpm.
