Engine Storing

alright im going to be getting an engine soon and don't have any idea how to store if can just put it in a tarp in my garage would it be safe.

..make sure its all drained, etc.. I like to stuff socks or something into the tb...spark plug holes..etc...so animals dont decide to make a home out of it..and for added protection, I usually put it in a big ass plastic bag and seal it up good... but I always had to keep my engines in a dirty ass shed..so...

what engine are you getting? why store it, just drop the sumbitch in your engine bay and call it a day :biggrin:

just sit it right on the oil pan, if your lifting it by youself watch out for the manifold studs i lost a good pair of jeans that way! :icon16:

If you don't have an engine stand, I would recommend going to your local hardware store (or whatever, lotsa places have them) and get a free palette... then you can tie it on the palette...carefully set it on the oil pan and then tie it at least two directions so it is stable :)

Oh, yeah! I didn't do that, and the mice carried all the grain from a nearby 50 pound sack into their nest..inside my manifold.

i just laid my motor up on the ground with a towel over it, works fine.
