i know that this isn't exactly a camaro question, but i'm a camaro kinda person, and just dont know where ot put this :P but anywayz, you know in 2 fast 2 furious when he pulls up in the begining in his car and the smoke or watever it is, is being shot out from the tire well.... well my question is what is that? i was thinking maybe some sort of thing where when u hit teh button nitrous shoots out to give it that effect, but wasn't sure, any help would be appreciated, thanks
In fact, i even found a picture of someone that has it, only on their hood, take a look at this picture: http://gallery.godragracing.com/racing/atco_05-29-2003/ATCO_111

I believe those are nitrous jets, but I dont know what their purpose is since you'd think it only wastes your N2O...
Anyone know what they're for?

my brother has it, it is called a purge kit, and you are basically supposed to use it to clean out the nitrous line after you close the bottle and you are done with it......however alot of people like to spray them with the bottle open for no reason because it looks pretty cool, and it don't really waste that much nitrous

It is a purge to remove the 10 feet+ of cold (i.e. unpressurized) nitrous in the lines before a run as there is no way to pressurize the nitrous in the lines - only the bottle gets pressurized with a warmer. N2O needs to be between 900 to 1100 psi when it enters the engine for the full effect. The nitrous trapped in the lines from a previous run might be at 600 psi on a hot day if the bottle is in direct sunlight.
In the movie I'm sure it was for effect but it is actually a very useful and important accessory in any N2O kit. From experience my seat-o-the-pants gauge measures about a 100 hp difference when I purge vs. not purging before a run with my 150 shot.

It could be a purge system, or it could be a badass set of blowoff valves. Looking at the color of it (appeared to be a slight mist blowing out) i would lean toward the nos purge system....
But, it only happened when he revved and suddenly let off the gas (much like a blow-off-valve). Now a purge system is at the push of a button, and you only do it once before you spray for real, he did it a few times. But a BOV wouldn't explain the slight mist.
So i dunno, i've wondered about this for a while, and i'm honestly split 50/50 between a purge system and a BOV.
If it were "REAL LIFE" it would be a BOV, but they do stupid stuff in movies (like purging a nos system 3 or 4 times without spraying it). I don't worry much over something that happened in a movie where a guy shifts into second twice in a row. (watch the first F&F, when brain first tries out his eclipse, he shifts into second twice in a row).
(but your picture is most definently a purge system in action)

No actually they do it in real life to man, I see it all the time;
although I didn't know what their purpose was until a while ago.
I've seen them go off 10 times in really short intervals before.
Oh yeah, and "NOS system" is redundant...

Yeah I just hate when people say that.
I'm kinda an ass about it sometimes.
My friends do it all the time,"Dude I wanna inject NOS!!!"
It's stupid, most people don't even know how/why it works (chemicly).
Then again, most don't seem to care...

If it's only for effect, you might as well just get a super-soaker and squirt it out the window....
CO2 should work fine especially if mixed with water .
