Whats the better engine?

I have a 1990 GS Integra with the stock B18A1 engine. I wanted to upgrade it to possibly a B17A1(the Vtec for the series), but I havent been able to find any without buying the whole car with it. Was looking at the B16's and they got the same HP, but do they have the same torque?...and which one is more customizable ie: turbos, headers, and all the usual perks. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this dilemma....

Well look at this way. You goin turbo? If so, i'd keep your ls motor. B17 have a bit more torque but its very rare to find them. Theres so many aftermarket parts for any b-series motor. b16 and b17 , b18c and b18c5 are compatible. Ls motor is compatible also but only in some parts like pistons etc...

SO either motor is good but i'd stick with your stock motor for turbo. OR you can get a b20 for the nice torque and good for turbo also.

get the b18b motor along w/ the tranny. the long gears an the lower compression are a perfect set-up for a stock motor/turbo set-up. (honda-wise)

i've written this many times man...do a search about motors...they're tons of topics exactly like this.

forgot to mention it's a GS not an LS...if that even makes a difference

nope gs rs ls are all the same the only ones i would say are diffent are the gsr and the type r and the engine are basically the same with the expection that the type r has some better componets that make it have more hp.

Ahh yes but he will need a b18a tranny not a b18b, the 90 integra had a cable clutch and the b18b has a hydro clutch:bigthumb:

Yeah and hydro conversion is a bitch...
My advice, rebuild the B18A with 9:1 JE pistons and get a set of Eagle rods and boost it 14 PSI. 14-15 PSI is all the stock sleeves can handle anyway, but 9:1 compression will work well with 14 PSI. You should make 300 HP easy with 14 PSI on a built motor.

heh, whoops, jus a SMALL problem...:bigthumb:

an 94blk...its not really much of a b18c1, its jus the block w/ the b16 head an a BUNCH of different compontents. so those two aren't really too similar at all. honda really stepped it up with those motors.

Are you sayin that the gsr head is the same as the b16 head? Cause its not.

no, im saying the b18c5 head is the same as the b16 head, because it is.

read wut he said, he was comparing the type r motor to the gsr motor and said they were basically the same except for a few performance pieces...which is untrue. reread wut both of us said an it'll make more sense.
