HELP!! I was driving my 96 cherokee sport (4.0l,auto) home and the motor stopped without warning. Yes, I have gas!. About a year ago I had to replace the distributor pickup plate (aka cam sensor) which fixed a simular problem. this time however I didnt get any "check engine" warnings at all. after it stoped, I got one code from the check engine light which blinks 1-1-5-5 which is supposedly the crank sensor. I replaced the crank sensor, and the cam sensor, the cap and the rotor. the jeep still wont start. It cranks and I have fuel and spark from the coil but it wont even burp. I also had a spare computer which I swapped out and the only code it gives me now is 1-2-5-5 which is power disconnected within 50 starts. when I put the old computer back in it gives me the same 1-2-5-5. any ideas? Thanks much, Charlie

You need the computer that connects to your Jeeps computer that tells you exactly whats wrong...any local mechanic shop should have one...and you know 99% of mechanic shops give free inspections...just go to a mech shop, let the pros handle it.

Trust me, unless you do car modeling you are gonna get NO help on this board what so ever.

in most chrysler computer cars, 1-2 is start of codes, 5-5 is end, nothing between means clear of codes, have you checked the fuel pressure, filter and pump? these are common problems with that vehicle that I see coming through my shop

code 1-2 is loss of pwr. to pcm in last 50 to 100 start cycles. like when you changed the pcm you took away the pwr. code 5-5 is end of data. also the scanners that shops have only give you codes and some crude opperating info. they can only point you in the general direction of the real propblem good luck.

it sounds like u flooded the system. spark plugs won't spark if they are wet from too much gas let it sit for awhile and retry starting

So you got the code indicating that the CPS was bad, you changed it and it still won't start but you get a different error now?

Sorry to say this but you'd better go back and check your repair. Make sure the CPS is in correctly and connected. Make sure you have your cap and rotor on correctly and plug wires sequenced to the firing order. You may have simply overlooked something.

Check the wire to the O2 sensor by your cat see if it is worn through by the drive shaft.
