what would be the stock times for the 5 speed? Also any estimates on the 3.8 with CAI exhaust and 3.73 gearing?

my best guess would be mid to low 15's stock assuming you hook up well and shift well. I assume if you ran slicks and power shifted you could see high 14's at sealevel. with the exhaust and the 3.73's I'd expect to see gains of .3-.5 sec on the times I just said.

Not to be a smartass, but without mods, you should just practice until you know how your car launches best. That will save you more overall time in the 1/4 then anything else.

well as the saying goes "how fast do you wanna go?... how much money you got." (or something to that effect :) ) you can make the car as fast as you got money for, you wanna hit 10's with the 6cyl with no nitrous and still be street legal you can, it'll cost you a shit load but it's possible, unless you want to do an engine swap, I suggest looking for a new intake, headers (I don't know if they even make them for the 6 cyl.???), get a chip burnt, taller gears, and better exhaust (as you already said) get a port and polish job done on the heads, aftermarket ignition, a supercharger or a turbo, the list goes on and on. you may have a little more trouble finding things for yours 'cause it's the 3.8L instead of the 350 but I'm sure the parts are out there. other things you might try that are free are taking out spare tire/ jack big stereo (amp, sub etc.) I picked up .5 sec and 4 mph at the track just by taking out the spare tire/jack, backseat, and sub. that's if you don't mind driving a gutted car to the track. other than that good hooking tires (ie. slicks or drag radials), and suspension, and as Yogs said practice, cause you can have all the power in the world but if you can't control it you'll lose everytime. have fun. peace -Firebird

Sorry to say but unless the market out there has changed in the last year, there are not a lot of mods for the 3.8l Firebird. You can add a CAI w/ K&N air filter, 15hp superchip. I haven't found an aftermarket header so an exhaust system is cosmetic.
You could always do a swap with a Formula, but that would get expensive. I was told that changing gears would provide little increase in power.
If anyone has different info, can you post it.:bigthumb:

I checked about a year ago w/ several sites and all came back w/ the same answer about a performance header pipe for the 3.8l. If you've found a decent one post it. the 15 hp was just the increase. I'm not sure what brand, but if you need the name I can get it from the a local shop here called Need 4 Speed. I was $212

Thanks for site. I should've asked this forum instead of the "pros". The problem no is cash, I'm getting a new paint job and some body work on the Mustang. Where in Mass? I worked in Waltham a few years ago.
