DIRECT GAS INJECTION!!!!
WOW. the new BMW 760 has it makes 400hp and gets 30 mpg (dont quote me on this) this is some great stuff. anyone know where i can find more about it. I believe diesel have been using i for a while. ive also heard mitsubishi has already sold cars in japan with it for a few years. basically i wan tto know EXACTLY how it works. how much it costs to do. what i need to do it. and when will it hit the sates in production cars.

Hm, wonder if thats the first production gasoline car to run it, Audis been using it in their R8 LMP cars for years now, but I dont think I've ever seen a gas production car with it. Impressive tech either way, the gains are small but everything adds up.

You'll need a super-high-pressure fuel pump + ancillaries, specially-shaped pistons (I think), a new intake manifold, low-sulphur gasoline (which means not from the pump), POSSIBLY a new head, new pistons, etc.
Plus a new fuel management system.

I think Mitsubishi was first to use it in serial production, they called i GDI. Volvo also had a version of that engine.
All cars with this type of fuel injection also needs a NOx trap since they are using "lean burn".

Renault also makes DI gas engines, although they run richer than Mitsu's GDI engines.
