Have a problem with the car stalling with no warning while just cruising along. Will restart immediately. Show a cam/crank position sensor code but book says it will run with a failed sensor. Ignition modules usually won't allow a restart immediately when they fail. Fuel system related? Any help appreciated. I don't want to just throw parts at it without some guidance.

What size motor is in it? If it is a 3.8l, more than likely you may have a bad crank sensor. If it was the cam sensor it would not restart right away. One way of checking the crank sensor is to let the vehicle run hot, and with a long pry bar, wiggle the crank sensor, if it stalls, replace crank sensor.

It is a 3.8 motor. Where can I get the special tool referenced for lining the sensor up with the rings on the balancer? Thanks for your help.

Its a special tool. Your local dealer might let you use it but you will also need the puller to remove the balancer.
I have replaced many crank sensors for a stalling condition. Try tapping on the sensor with the engine running to see if it will stall.
The crank sensor is used to determine where number 6 cylinder is and the cam sensor tells what cylinder is where and when to fire the injector and spark plug. If the cam sensor fails open the car will run and start.

Update: Put the Cam Pos. Sensor on but could not get the bolt loose on the balancer so could not replace the Crank sensor. Any tricks for this? So far the car has not shut off yet but it did at one point run rough and the Service Engine light came on. Next restart the light was off and it has run fine since??? Will be still working on the balancer. Will need a special puller also.
