Engine swap!!!

well, i'm thinkin about an engine swap...:bigthumb:
however, the engine might be too big!
would a 3.0L turbo engine out of a 968 fit?
of course i would get a new ecu chip and clip and harness.
but i'm wondering if this big honkin engine would require buffed out suspension, or could i just swap the front end suspension too?

Of course it will fit, The chassis is exacly the same for the 944 and 968.

The mounts are different though. You will also need a 968 torque tube.
Then you would need bigger brakes to go with the power, and better suspension, and .......

Why not just get a 968? It will end up being about the same price. They are going for mid teens.

968 engine will fit perfectly. but why would you do that when you can swap a 944 S2 motor in it which is the same as the 968. (16V DOHC 3.0L L4) although I think the 968 has Variocam which pretty much is VTEC for Porsche. See Porsche came out with it before Honda did.

The only 968 engine worth swaping would be the 968 Turbo or Turbo S motor. But again I would just save for a 968 Turbo. PErsonally I love the 968 look.

The only draw back of buying a 968 is that there is a smaller aftermarket for it than the 944's. And some of the 968 parts are cost a little more.

I have a 84 944 and am thinking about getting an engine swap too. Does anyone know how much a 944s2 engine would cost and where to get one?

If i were you i would just sell your 84 944 and buy a 944 S2. I say this because S2 suspension is alot better than regular 944

Yeah I already thought about that but its really hard to find a 944 now thats in good condition. My 944 now is near mint condition since it was in a garage for 10 years so if I were to get another one, Id want one just as good.

The Porsche factory 968 Turbo S does this. Good luck finding one for sale though (less than 20 original ever built. Only 4 original 968 Turbo RS.) My 2.5ltr 944 turbo is currently at 332RWHP/358RWTQ. I have seen 2.5ltr 951's with over 400RWHP! Now take a 3ltr 968 motor, lower the compression with aftermarket pistons and rods, find a 8 valve head from a 2.7ltr 944 and port it, modify a stock 951 intake manifold to mount correctly, add a garrett/kocklen hybrid turbo with the 951 exhaust and you could easy get 500RWHP that is daily driver reliable. Now that would be fun!
