i didn't know exactly where to put this, since it could go anywhere, my question is if its called nitrous oxide, why is it written N2O? in chemistry class i learned that N2O would mean 2 parts hydrogen, and one part oxygen, so wouldn't it be dinitrogen monoxide? or am i completely off? someone plz explain. . .

first of all its NO2, it stands for nitrogen dioxide. Where are you getting the hydrogen from???

It would?

I thought hydrogen was H and nitrogen was N.

It is N2O, which is two parts nitrogen and one part oxygen. That would make it nitrogen oxide.

This belongs in the N2O forum.

i don't like nos, to many times idiots destroy their cars cause they start with such big shots ( am i sayin that right?) instead of starting out with a small shot.

well you nkow what i mean, just switch H+ out, by the way i got a 85% in that class, not too bad, but let me see if i get this out right dinitrogenmonoxide would be the long way to say it right?

As polygon said its N2O two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom......if if woul've been the way you said it would have been too rich in oxigen and caused detonation.....it is the main reason we don't use pure oxygen or other richer in oxygen compounds cuz it will lead to detonation.....

Most of the time it is the person behind the install or the person behind the wheel who blows the motor up not the nitrous, please don't blame it on the nitrous, I know alot of ppl, including myself, who have used nitrous for along time with no problems. A good point to make here would be cautious with nitrous it is not something to play with. You need to learn as much as possible so that you will use it correctly and NOT ABUSE IT b/c if not then you wil risk bad things happening to your motor. But please don't blame the nitrous directly.

Ahh sorry it is late here lol. But yes I could not agree more, ppl who are not educated about nitrous enough should not have it. On the worst side the could kill themselfes or somebody else :frown:

yeah i agree. what i meant by real cars don't need nitrous is that i consider nitrous a way to get a quick boost in speed if yur runnin behind.
