To N Americans: Leonid Meteor Shower

Twist

How many of you guys are going to watch this? It's supposedly going to be spectacular.

Here is a link to a MSNBC article on it. Leonid Meteor Shower (http://www.msnbc.com/news/653572.asp?pne=msn&cp1=1)

Note to non-North Americans. I'm not being selective here, it's just that the comets will only be visible around the Northern Hemisphere over Canada, Mexico and the US. Sorry! :silly2:

actually, I heard that they are going to be the weakest over N. America. Supposedly they will be seen in asia and australia too, where the number of meteors per hour is supposed to be 10 times that of the one's seen in N Amer. around 8,000 an hour!!!

Chances are though, that for peeps in N Amer. they will see fireballs aswell. I know I am going to watch!

The Pacific rim will have longer to see them, but supposedly the NA will get a pretty intense bit.

Anyone have any tips on how to watch a meteor shower through pea-soup-thick fog??? :(

What a total bummer!!! You can't even see the brake lights on the car 200 feet infront of you let alone some spectacular shower!!!!

For once this week, we have mildly clear weather, so maybe I'll go outside and look up. It would be a great night to curl up with someone and watch the meteors.

Anybody see it? Or was it an "only in Canada" thing? Well I got up a 4:30 to see it becasue I never had before, it was kinda neat, some big ones would look like planes getting shot down and the actually was quite a few of them. I was just lying in the park on the ground freezing my ass off, close to a hot girl's house (I was going to ask her out with me but I don't think her parents would like that very much) so I just wlaked home at about 6:00am.

Edit: Merged as per Porsche's request - Heep

Saw some of it last night. There were a few impressive ones streaking across the sky. I wish I had been more awake to see more.

I saw some of it. Unfortunately, I couldn't get out of the Suburbs so I only saw the big ones. The ones I did see were quite spectacular. I just wish there was a way to dim the lights of the city. It was a reminder to me that we're all so small and even are planet is ridiculously small compared to the vastness of space.

Apologies for getting sentimental! :o

well on the website they said that they'll be ending at around 5am est. but that's when there will be the most out

but they started at around 11pm est

plus even if there were tons out, we still wouldn't have been able to see them cause it was so foggy here, you couldn't even see all the way down the street... that's why i said you couldn't see anything, cause it was so foggy, not just meteors, you couldn't see anything

geez, am I the only one to really watch it? I got my az up at 3:00 am and went outside of city limits and watched em come down until about 5:00am. I must have seen around 150-200 and one great blazing fireball. It was a huge blue streak that left a smoke trail that hung around for about 3 min. It was pretty cool. I was freezing and my neck had a horrible crick in it so I had to leave before I needed chiropractic assistance:) I am surprised so few people actually watched it...

Like I said before, I wish I got my ass up to watch it!:( My mom and brother saw the huge fireball, and I was sleeping (not peacefully...damn neck hurt from Saturday night's party:()
