Straight Pipes?

So, I may be getting a CRX for pretty cheap, and if I do, it's going to be all race. I won't have to worry about passing emissions with it, since it won't be street-driven anyways, just trailered to and from the track. So, I was thinking about running straight pipes, no cat, no muffler...

Would this significantly improver performance, or would there be a loss of performance due to less back-pressure?

shoudl be just fine. there are like half a dozen race-only hatches / crxs in my area that just run a header basically... it is loud as fuck, but there's nothing wrong with it.

back pressure has no positive effect at all on performance, what will make a difference though is the vacuum, since exhaust timing overlaps tdc on the exhaust stroke it relies on the momentum from already traveling exhaust to create a vacuum effect and further clear exhaust from the cylinder through the first part of the intake stroke. I read this all in an arcticle somewhere, but i cant seem to find where it is anymore.... i do remember it saying though that backpressure has absolutely no positive effects on engine performance

I'm thinking if I do straight pipes, I will have them exit the side of the car, just in front of the rear wheels, kinda like the way Worshp has his set up.

...those are real... didnt you see any of the production pics where they had the trunks of the cars filled with propane? haha... seriously.

oh ok, then uh i guess ill shut up on that subject. actually come to think of it my grandpa did that to his 67 chevy, where he had the exhaust coming out the side, and then put spark plugs in the pipes, that were connected to a battery and and then to a on off switch...it was pretty nice

what motor are you going to be using? if its a D i think you can make the bisimoto race header exit the side of the car like your talking about

If it's a track car and there are no noise restrictions at the tracks you go to (better check) go for open pipes.

Some organizations, tracks or classes require that you are below a certain noise level. This often (not always) means a muffler.

my friend has a straight pipe on his 3k gt plus dual mufflers and it adds lots of power. doin the same to my hatch soon ;]

oh yeah there super loud, heheh had my exauset pipe break off at the flange that connects to the cat, damm it was loud, but nothing a weilder couldnt fix :loser:
