1 problem is the keyless entry, where can i get the original code for it , i read the manual the manual says it taped onto the computer module but wheres that located ?? and the other problem is after i changed the battery, the 4x4 buttons dont work, well the auto button works but if i were to push just the 4x4 low or high they do not work no matter what i tried. ???? what could it be ???? the 4x4 did work before the battery change, and i checked all fuses ect....
By the way i imported the car from america to poland where i currently am. so there is no ford dealers here, ! so all the input i can get will be GREAT !

I had the same problem with my 2002 Explorer. The dealer said my only option was to pay them $75 to hook their computer up to my car. I finally got a friend in the business to do this for me (another Ford dealer). I couldn't find any codes under the dash or in the jack/spare tire compartment. I even called Ford. They said each car has a different reset code. I don't think you're going to have any luck unless you can get your car to a dealer - which may not be an option in Poland. Maybe try to contact the former owner? There are Ford dealers in some European countries. Good luck.

I have the same problem ... the prior owner (which happens to be the MANAGER of the Toyota dealer where I bought my Explorer) claims he moved and has not yet found the Owner's Manual with the Owner's Card containing the Factory-Set Keyless Entry Code for the Door Keypad.
I called Ford's 800# and was told that since I am the 2nd owner, they no longer have the Code and that my only option was to go to the Dealer.
Supposedly, they now have a DIAGNOSTIC WAND that is used to determine the Factory-Set Entry Code.
Good luck :banghead:

I just bought a 2002 Explorer the other day. Funny thing, from a Toyota dealer. I also have same problem, keypad code. But is that the final say? Does any one know where or if this code is in the car. Where are the computers located?

Try looking on the driverside where the jack is and look in the inside of the area where the jack is located the computer should be there u may need a light and small mirror.....Hope this helps./.....the code should be on a sticker on the computer

thanks drvncrzy for your reply, my explorer has a third row seat and the jack is located on the floor behind it. But just in case, I removed the rear driver side panel, but no luck, I only found the subwoofer and the a/c unit. Any other suggestions??

In the back where the jack is supposed to be, there are a bunch of wires which lead into a white box. On this box is a 5 digit number - the factory door combination. It always works. To put in a personal number:
1. Put in the factory number
2. Within 5 seconds, put in 1
3. Enter 5 digit personal number (no more than 5 seconds between)
That's it.

I own a 2002 Mountaineer. I too have a 3rd row seat and rear air. I also looked where the jack is (in the floor) and can not find the computer. Does anyone know where else it may be?

I own the same vehicle & have the same problem! I can not find the computer module. Have you had any luck finding it?

Driver's side, rear compartment. Remove panel. Inside is white box. Use a mirror to look at the tag on the box.

Trust us, it's there! You have to look forward towards the wheel well. It's WAAAAAY up there, and it's REEEEEEALLY small, but it's there! :iceslolan

On a 2002 the code is on the computer which is located on the passenger side rear door upright. To locate, pop the paneling loose between the door and rear window, you will find a second panel, pull it back and you will see the code on the computer. You may need to use a flashlight to see it but it is there. :)

You were absolutely right. Thanks! That just saved us $130 according to our dealership over here. It's a little hard to read but we jsut popped the module out of the clips that hold it in place & could read it just fine.
