Hi. I have a 1984 trans am and i'm thinking of putting an ls1 or an lt1 into it. Right now it is using a 220hp 5.0liter 305 v8. WOuld the ls1 or lt1 show a big improvement? Is the swap even possible? thanks for your time.

Yeah, it would show huge improvements. It's just gonna take alot of time to get the engine bay ready to accept one of those engines. It's been done before, but it'll be costly. Do a search on this topic, cause it's been done before....

Is it really that hard to prepare the engine bay? The 305 is not the stock engine. It was also transplanted in. Most people say it will cost 3-5000 for a full installation. Is this true?

it should not cost you tha much at all. the going rate around here is 800 to 1000 bucks for a streight-over engine swap. do you have this new motoer already? do you plan on buying a brand new one, rebuild, or one from a friend?
i do full swaps for $700 and that inludes a few mod's if necesary. just make sure if you do this your self you have the right wiring harnesses, ecm and anything else that maybe needed for the swap. have fun by doing it your self. it will take you 20 hours at the most

It all depends on what shape the engine is in that you get, and who you have have installing it as to what the price is gonna be. If you're buying a crate LS1, you're already at $5200...
