Curious about exhaust

I am wondering what kind of exhaust systems everyone is putting in their hatchies. They have that weird muffler that bends and comes out the left side.. I was hoping I could see some pics with how people have gone about mounting mufflers and whatnot

most people throw in some big bucks...you get what you pay for....u can either buy a pre-fabbed exhaust that you can just bolt on (Borla, Thermal stuff like that) that goes from the header back...or you can get like a universal (MatriX, APEXi) and get a muffler shop to make custom bends/piping...sry no pics...im sure some people have some...

i personally have a custom made exhuast coming out the right side.

I have a custom exhaust coming through a Focuz muffler on the left side. There were 2 reasons i did this. 1) I liked the style of the Tanabe exhausts and the look of the muffler and they didnt make exhausts for my car and 2) I personally dont like the style of the 'sideways' mounted muffler that comes on most 4g cat-backs.

Yeah, there's 4 ways to go...

1.) You can buy a whole cat-back system like DC sports, Thermal, whatever. Comes with everything you need past the Catalytic converter. That's what I did... looks great, all stainless steel, sounds great, runs great... Had it for almost 4 years, love it.

2.) You can buy an Axel-back exhaust like Monza, etc. Bolts up at the rear axel... I've heard that most axel-back setups are kinda shitty. Plus, if you plan on buying a header, you might as well have the mid-piping that comes with the cat-back system.

3.) You can go with a canister and custom piping. Find the canister exhaust that you want (Which I think is what you're talking about when you're describing when you're talking about it coming out at an angle). Then head to your nearest muffler shop, and they can bend/weld all the piping for you. I think this may be the cheapest way to go, but I'm not sure.

4.) Straight pipes! Well, not really... You'd get pulled over all the time and wouldn't pass emissions, but oh well...

Yeah if u buy a muffler and get custom piping it is quite cheap. I ended up paying $310 for everything, after tax. $120 for the muffler and $190 for the piping/install.

I think their both good ways to go, but it also depends on what kind of budget your on. I was lookin at some of the cat-back systems and as a 16 year old kid i couldn't pass up savin $150, at least, by getting it done custom.

I have a Vibrant axle back. It cost $225 delivered when I bought it. It's good quality stainless and fit perfect. This is the third muffler for the car. The original was replaced with a factory Honda axle back with a stainless muffler. It rotted off at the tips so now I have the vibrant. I have probably 30K miles on it now and it has lasted fine.

I'm looking into a custom system for mine. I'm Keeping the factory extractors* and going high-flow cat with mandrel bent 2 1/4 inch piping into a high flow muffler custom built to match the SiR's existing one plus the SiR exhaust tips. Emphasis is on looking original while improving it by getteng away from the crush-bent factory system. Total cost is 700Au (about 340US). I have a set of extractors lined up, hand made based on the Mugen pattern for the EK4 VTiR's B16A for approx 400Au which may go on if I get bored with keeping it all looking stock.

*Extractors, Aussie for Header.
