turbo a type-r

Since the type-r has high compression, what needs to be done to the engine when turbo is installed? I'm just planning things out before spending the loot.

Turbo on a Type R= BLASHPHEMY

low compression pistons will make turboing the b18c5 easier....but what would be the point of doing that:rolleyes: just get a b18c1 and turbo it or supercharge the b18c5

so supercharging the type r is the way to go then? what else should be done to the engine so everything is tuned correctly?

I'm still new so this will probably be a dumb question. But why would it be a waste to Turbo a Type-R? Would it also be a waste to Turbo my '99 GS-R? If anyone could explain that would be great.... Thanks.

i personally don't know everything about prepping engines....so i'll let someone else answer that

yes it is basically a waste of money to turbo a b18c5 b/c it is a high compression engine. as fas as turboing a b18c1...i think itz perfect for it b/c it is a low compression engine:icon16:

You'll be fine turbo'ing the type r. High compression is GOOD for turbo if you know what you're doin. You need to get your a/f tuned and fuel upgrade is a MUST. THe only thing is that u can run much boost but who cares? You can just be as fast or faster with someone that has higher boost. It puts more power to the ground then the low cr. You just really have to take it to get it tuned. Otherwise its not safe.

wouldnt it just be a waste of money if you put a turbo in it. because of high compression you wouldnt be about to boost much. the gsr which also has high compression like 10:1 (i think) can only boost 7psi. and i know type r is high so it would just be a waste. IMO $1100 couldnt get you a very good turbo, high quality i/h/e would suck most of that cash dry.

let the cars that need turbo to catch up to you buy that stuff.

Like i said in my earlier post. You'll be just as fast on low boost then someone boosting high. Hell you can be faster then someone boosting 20 plust pounds. Its really not a waste of money.

For the money you would spend on a turbo you could put other things in the motor to outperform a turbo for the same price. I don't feel like listing the 7 billion parts available for these cars but for 2k to 3k you should have a pretty built all motor that will take any type r just running a turbo on the stock internals(ie stock compression setup).

If you're going to turbo a honda, do it to the gsr. I say this because there are more gsr's than you can shake a stick at. On the other hand, there were a maximum of 2000 type r's each of the 4 years they were sold here. Also, these motors were never made to be boosted (thus the high commpression, peaky powerband and 8400rpm redline). Last, it's just more cost effective to boost a gsr because they're cheaper and you'll get the same power out of the two in the end. Just my $.02.

Top Fuel but a Turbo B18C5 into a Del sol once does that count?

I am so glad that somebody brings this up. I agree completely. Everyone likes to bag on type-r turbo b/c of the comp ratio. But like said above, all it needs is good tuning. It will put much more hp per psi down if done right. Most people go the gsr route simply b/c the base motor is cheaper and you can get them everywhere.

The reason people bag on a boosted Type R is because the Type R is a NA tuners weapon of choice. If you wanted boost the Type R is still not suppposed to enter your mind because it was simply not built for it. I'm sure all you FI tuners willl agree. Sure it will lay down higher numbers on less boost due to high compression but is that really a good turbo set up??? Not IMO and I'm pretty sure not in yours.

It dont matter? As long as it runs right cause of tuning there shouldn't be any problems.
