me and my friend have a bet going. are the hook scoops in the Trans AM ram air functional, or just for show... They look amazing, but I think they also serve a purpose. my friend thinks they are just for show.

yes... they are fully functional... but you really can't feel the effects of the ram air until around 80 mph

Yes they are "functional" technically.
But there are 2 fiberglass "baffles" in the hood that have to be removed in order to get the full "RAM AIR" effect...
With these baffles in place, the incoming air must first go under baffle #1 and then under baffle #2. The main reason GM did this was to ensure no WS6 would encounter "Vapor Lock".
I cut out my baffles and sealed the hood with the airlid in order to create a direct "Ram Air" effect. I don't quite remember exactly how much I gained in the 1/4 time wise, if any, but I do recall I picked up about 1mph trap speed. So there was a minimal gain from removing them.
