Top Splices for an amp install?

Can this be done? I have an "AMP MUTE" function on my Kenwood KDC-X569 and I'm adding a 4 channel amplifier. Can I just splice into the speaker wire that currently exists, or should I run new wire?

KDC-X569 .... is that an amp or a head unit or what ?
