ok....so here's my question. I'm getting ready to put in my D16Z6 starting this thursday and maybe finishing on Sunday. The only problem I'm thinking of encountering is this..

What would be easier? Using the Z6 engine harness or my LX engine harness and splicing in all the extra wires for MPFI, etc. Also, are the main plugs the same? ...I mean the big ass engine harness plug that plugs in near the upper left hand side of the fire wall next to the main fuse box. My LX plug is round and I was wondering if the Z6 main engine harness plug will plug into my round one.

I would like to use my Z6 complete engine harness to make wiring easier but I'm wondering if it will plug into the firewall harness I was talking about in the previous paragraph.

So it goes like this...complete engine harness plugs into the firewall harness...that goes through the firewall and comes out as three ecu plugs. Those three plugs plug into the ecu. Right?

I'm using the P28 (D16Z6) ecu and I'm ordering a conversion harness to plug the P28 into the 3 LX plugs coming from my firewall. I'm doing this so no soldering has to be done. I'll just have to run the 8 extra wires for the extra components like vtec (2 wires at distributor) , O2 Sensor (4 wires), and mpfi (2 wires). I'll have to run these wires directly from the ECU. Does all this sound right?

I'm really hoping LadyNRedSi reply and also CivicDxDude because I think they've done this swap already...

Thanx guys in advance.

I've never done an obd1 conversion but MPFI i have.

I used the remnants of an HF harness to make my fuel injector setup, since i belive that the OBD1 harness has different fuel injector clips. Since you're going OBD1, you wouldn't need the resistor box...

If it was me, I would probably use the Z6 harness as a donor for all teh plugs, and you can remove the loom from the harness to salvage the fuel injector wiring. Im not 100% sure, but i think the engine harness plugs (big round ones) are different on OBD1 than OBD0.

when my brother did his MPFI conversion, he ran all the wires all sexy like in the engine/car harness, while I just wanted to get it done so i ran the extra distributor sensors/fuel injector wires/vtec through a grommet in the firewall on the passenger side.. it happened to come out right above the ECU. You'll find out that when you go to lay out all the wires, and you can visualize where they will plug in, it will be a little bit easier. You will also find you'll have to switch around the TPS sensor wires, as the DPI setup TPS moves in the opposite direction. Also, you will have to extend the D16Z6 fan switch, becuase on OBD0 engines it is on the back of the block, while on OBD1 engines, it is located on the thermostat housing on the rear passenger side of the engine. If i remember correctly, I used the Z6 harness plug for the fan switch and just plugged the wire into the banana type plug of the OBD0 harness, since OBD1 and OBD0 fan switches have a different type of plug.

Im sure that if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask, Myself, LadyNredSi, and a few others would be glad to help you.
