Used Car Mechanic Inspection

Hi. I'm preparing to buy a used vehicle. I found several at some "mom & pop" dealerships near me. Is it unusual for a dealer to allow a prospective buyer to take the car to their mechanic for inspection? These types of dealerships I assume by many auction vehicles, so inspection by a 3rd party mechanic is very important to me, so I can understand if it has any issues.

Thanks very much for any thoughts.

It's actually quite common for reputable used car dealerships to allow prospective buyers to take the car to their own mechanic for inspection. It's a good practice and shows that the dealer has nothing to hide about the condition of the vehicle. If the dealer hesitates or refuses, it might be a red flag. Given that many of these "mom & pop" dealerships do purchase vehicles from auctions, having a third-party mechanic inspect the car is a very smart move. It ensures you're aware of any potential issues before making a purchase.
Thanks and good luck with your car hunt!
