KA24E Capable Of Anything?

Can you do or have you done anything to the KA24E engine? I was just wondering because my cousin Scott sold me his 89 240SX hatch for $300 because he won't be able to drive for 4 years (2nd offense D.W.I.) I don't feel like getting an SR engine so I was wondering what I could do to the SOHC KA engine. I know it's around 135hp stock. Is it possible to turbo charge this engine? I have a 16G turbo from a 1G talon and I could do the custom piping and get an intercooler for cheap. Please help guys. I don't know much about the 240.

Sure, it's possible to turbocharge it but I'm not sure how it handles it compared to a KA24DE. I'm pretty sure I've heard of people doing it in the past. Your best bet would be to look around on Google for some information about it. As far as what I know has been done to the KA24E, I've seen a few make some serious power while remaining naturally aspirated. I believe someone had a built one making about 230 wheel horsepower. It used individual throttle bodies and some big Mikuni sidedraft carbs. With some good carb tuning and a lot of good head work you can pull some serious power out of a set-up like this.. your car will idle at around 2.5k though.

What mods have you done to get up to that all motor? Also can the KA24E handle nitrous in the stock form? If so what is the highest shot to use with out f*u*k*n*g up my engine? I want to build mine to have as much BHP as "mynismo" and exceed that with a 75 dry shot of ZEX.

just buy my car, im selling it dude. im getting out of the whole street racing thing.... $5300. its a lot cheaper than doing it yourself.

the single motor is actually more turbo friendly. its got a much lower compression ratio then a twin cam. compression on the KA24E is something like 8.5 to 8.7 where the compression ratio for a twin cam is something like 9.5 the single cams can be made to be extremely fast. turbo charging a single cam vs turbo a dual cam the power should be pretty even.

Yeah its possible, my friend is doing it right now to his. He keeps telling me to stay KA and I probably would if my motor wasnt blown :biggrin:

I suppose there's no replacement for displacement so if the 2.4l is tuned properly then it would make more power then the 2.0l SR. Makes sense lol. Go for it man!

I've decided to go through with the turbo. Also I'm going to use a sneeky pete nitrous system (a 25 shot) to help spool my turbo. Here is what I'm going for...

I'm shooting for 240 bhp and am only going to boost as high as 10lbs. You guys have any kill stories using the KA24E engine? I need to know what I can take without the turbo so that I can see what I have a chance with it.

All the times I raced my friends stock 2000 Celica GTS tiptronic I beat him:biggrin:

Everytime we raced he had extra weight though but my car is 5-speed and has 165,XXX miles on the motor and is bone stock...

if i get a lsd to go along with my underdrive pulley (that will be installed this week), im hoping to hit mid 14's. and that's still with an auto :iceslolan :iceslolan :iceslolan my kill list should soon include much faster car's then the ones listed above.

i strongly believe with some upgrade work and port and polishing, and with it being a stick, and with all of my n/a mods, you can hit 12's. 13's fo sho.
