edmunds.com lists my car as 2950, but the tag on the door says GVWR 4010 lbs. thats one hell of a difference. doesnt GVWR stand for gross vehicle weight (and i dont know what the M is)? is edmunds just wrong? or (hopefully) does GVWR stand for something else...?

TARE Weight, or Net weight is the weight listed by the Edmonds book, its the total weight of the car unladen, that is with out a driver, or any luguage, or any gas in the tank (well sometimes manufactors inlcude the weight of a full tank, but most don't).
GVM (Gross Vechile Mass), or Gross weight is the maximum weight of the vechile fully loaded.
The differnce between the two numbers of course being how much load you can safely carry.
