Help needed by first timer!

Hello, this is my first time doing modelling and I bought a box of Tamiya's Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. I would like to ask that when painting and joining the small parts (engine, spring, pipe...etc), what kind of paints do you use? Will the paint cover the details of the parts making it less detailed and hard to snap to other parts? I am thinking of buying those small bottles of Tamiya paint for the small parts and spray cans for the body... And how do you join the small parts? Do you use the Tamiya Cement on the painted parts or the cement won't work? Please give some tips... thank you

Yes Tamiya Acrylic Paints

are great for painting the small parts and the cans are for the body and chassis, Any Cement is great for joing the parts, I use CA (superglue) on all parts (except the windows and other clear parts which we use white glue), but it is best to remove paint at the point where you need to add glue.
The paint should be applied in a thin layer therefore not hiding any detail.
I don't think your R34 will have an engine BTW

so, using only the acrylic paint for the small parts is enough? Do I need to add primer or sand or paint many layers to the small parts like the body? or I juz simply paint one coat of paint on it and that's all? Sorry, this is my first time and I don't wanna waste the model. =)

I'm workin on da skyline too... wut color r u paintin urz?? i highly reccomend tamiyaz TS 50 mica blue (which is a spray), it lookz really nice in light :wink:. as for paintin it... u only have to prime and sand the body and the parts of the body. dont worry too much about paintin the small parts... jus put one good layer of tamiya acrylicz let da piece dry and stick it where it goez with some kind of cement made for plasticz... although super glue does work. if u follow da rulez for paintin the body that are in da FAQ den id probably get two canz of da tamiya spray paint, cuz one is definetely not enough.... well good luck, and put up picz... do some searching and read the FAQ and I'm sure you will come up with some more knowledge.

It is impolite to come on a forum and ask simple questions when every single question ever asked is archived and there for your perusal. all of your questions have been asked and answered in detail already.

think of this place like a library, look for the book yourself before you ask the librarians.

I know the FAQ got a lot of stuffs... but I couldn't find any thread on the small parts (whether to apply primer or whether to sand.) but most of them are about the main body and so I decided to come and query. Ya I intend to paint it with Mica Blue (like the one on the cover). Looks more original

Hi, welcome !!!

For the small parts i recommend that you use the tamiya enamel paint as acrylic dry faster which will leave brush stroke
and if you use air brush if will need masking and take hell a lot of time!!!

And it is better that you primer its as paint can "eat" onto it better than bare plastic... but i feel just small parts a layer will do... and for sanding, you just sand those mold line will do...
