car problems

I have the following problems with my Malibu 98:

1.- With the idle needle moving from about 1,000 almost to 500 RPM's, when the car is on drive or neutral.
2.- Check engine light on for a couple of days and the off. (Have changed spark plugs, cables, ignition moudle and coils). When placing the scanner it reports it needs a tune up.
3.- I get an awful "clunking" noise driving over bumps toward the front end.
4.- When driving at 75 or 80 MPH, get a loud noise on the speaker system, like an alarm.
5.- I have a problem getting the car to start sometimes, when I use the remote starter it will trigger the Theft system and have to wait 8 min. (the starter worked fine for about 4 years).

Any ideas on how to solve the problems are appreciated

WHat happens with the theft system? I have an alarm on my malibu with remote start. There have been a few times when my theft system light went on in the pannel. I just drove didnt think anything of it. Does it do anything?

You gotta have it looked at. Some time down the road, it will leave you stranded. Most of the time it can be due to a faulty install or a bad interface for the remote start. But, then again GM has had high failure rate with these PassKey2 systems. They usually just change out the whole thing and charge you about $500 to do it!

After talking with my parents, looks like the problem was caused by not using the alarm remote to unlock the doors and disable the alarm before trying to drive the car. I guess they were using the key to unlock the door and then drive the car.

I am not going to attempt to duplicate the problem becuase it has not been a problem for me doing it the correct way.

Nope, that's not the problem. The entry alarm(if you have it) is completely separate from the Passkey system

Thanks for the info..

I have not encountered any problems with the passlock or remote start. I brought this topic back from the archives since my parents informed me that it was acting up when they tried to use it. I've used the remote start feature everyday for the past 2 weeks and I have not had any problems.

When it does, I'll post back :)
