1999 Grand Am, 3400 V-6 engine. Battery appeared dead when trying to start. Placed charger on battery and car started. When the car started I noticed all of the gages...speedometer, tach, gas gage, temp gage, etc...pegged to the right. Then all gages when back to left hand positon and then reached normal gage points. I turned the ignition off and re-started the engine several times. The majority of the starts resulted in the gages performing as I've described. Ocassionll the gages would simply move to the normal position without pegging to the right. Drove the car around the block, parked, turned off ignition, tried to re-start and the again the battery seemed dead. Placed charger on battery, re-started. Started the engine several times without aid of the charger. Left car sit for a few hours, again tried to start, whcih it did, but engine turned over very slowly before starting. Could the problem be in the starter or could I have electrical problems in the ignition system? Any thoughts would be deeply appreciated.

check the ground at the block, if not that, go see an electrical repair shop before you do damage, and don't bother with a gas station or pep boys, find a specialist
