Is there an alternative to fuel injection available for the 2011 Malibu?

A friend told me that fuel injection was a pain to work on so if possible, get the alternative. But when I asked a mechanic, he said that the alternative hasn't been available since the 90's. Is this true?
I'm looking at a 2011 Malibu so I don't want to get messed up with a hard-to-work-on car.

No there is no alternative in that car. A properly maintained late model fuel injected car is more trouble free than a carburetor car.

Amen to that. We used to change points and condenser every 12-15,000 miles, check/clean/replace distributor cap, rotor, wires, clean and adjust the carb at least once and often twice per year, tweak the timing, change plugs once a year, replace the exhaust system every 2-3 years, constantly adjust belts, screw with hoses and clamps, and all sorts of things that modern vehicles ignore for 50- to 100,000 miles, sometimes more. Many people forget (or never knew) how the "good old days" weren't always so good in some ways.

True, true.
