Where can I find the carbon canister purge solenoid valve on my 1993 TransSport 3.8L?
Sounds dumb but I can't find it.

Showing left front engine compartment below horn. Then it is showing left front engine compartment beside all the relays ac relay fan low and high speed relays fuel pump relay then beside those 4 relays shows canister purge solenoid. 3.8 engine.

That will help.

I will get to testing the shift and TCC solenoid circuits in a couple or three days. We can talk over my approach and you can set me straight if needed👍

Sorry, ya both. I have another thread that includes the Shift Solenoids etc.. I have Quad driver DTCs 26 & 56. I'll send you the link when I get back.

The newer vehicles have protection built in to the ecm to protect them not sure if yours does but if you replace ecm and there is a short in a component or wiring it will kill the new ecm. The qdm codes are hard to diagnose without specialized equipment. Could check resistance on wiring and components for opens or shorts. Check voltage and current with component on and off.

I've been reading in the GM TransSport ssrvice manual. I think I read that the ECM has protection on the Transsport.
I have been working on a plan to test the wiring for feed and ground to components.
Jumper the A (ground) and B terminals on the code connector, then check for grounds at the ECM connectors... I might have that confused? 🤓

Here is the link to my thread on this subject. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1154053

I have a new canister purge solenoid (amazon.ca) should I need it.

I found the canister purge solenoid on the 3.8L. It's at the back of the engine, just back of the intake manifold, and forward of the heater blower motor. I changed it out before with a new unit but no change to the codes.

How should I check the power supply and ground on the Purge valve solenoid? Is there a 5 volt reference signal, or 12 volts there? Does jumping A and B energize all of the components?

Did you get 2 volumes of the GM shop manual? One large book outlining the mechanical issues, and a thinner book of Drivability and Emissions, which is the one you need now. There should be a section with a logic tree on testing the purge valve. You should have 12V on the pink wire at all times key is turned on. The majority of output devices switch to ground, IE they have power ( 5 or 12V depending on the application) on one side and the PCM switches the ground on and off to control the circuit.
If you dont have the book, PM me and I will send you a scan out of my 1995 manual. Sadly I am not able to post the scans to the forum, but am willing to email them to anyone who needs them.

That is excellent Jeff. Thanks.
I have both books. I will look up that troubleshoot logic tree in the skinny book. Thanks. Narrowing it down to the skinny book helps lots.

I gave you a Thanks for that.
