Renault 8 Turbo

Finished building this last week, a fantasy racer inspired by the scandinavian racing scene in the 80's. Heller 1/24 kit, half scratchbuilt tube frame chassis, half Porsche :) . The engine is a modified R5 Turbo unit. Mostly built with parts from the scrap bin and painted with Tamiya TS aerosol can leftovers. But I like the 80's F1 turbo era look :)

I had a lot of fun building this little racer for about 2,5 months. Hope you like it!

Nice. I had an R 8 (non turbo) for a while in the seventies.

a beautiful piece of work.. i loved model building as a kid.. and i never understood why rally racing never caught on in america; as every state here has massive expanses of wilderness.. plus- some of my favorite cars being stationed around the world were NOT made here: Fiat Corsa, Peugeot 205; and my all-around, favorite car in the US were SAABs.. great multi-function, sporty, great mpg, great for speed!, etc....
it is a shame; not only GM did not continue the relation, but also that if i want a Renault, i have to look back to 70s scrap yards..
that 8 Turbo looks like a great piece.. i'd love to see it at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb..

yea.. stupid go fast, turn left... repeat for hours.. when i got back from iraq the first time, i served as security for the Gran Prix of Denver.. saved all the pics.. even got to run the track with Tommy Lee, Donny Osmond, and Mario himself.. now that was racing (at least on pavement)..

Security guys get interesting work. I had a friend who was in the Secret Service and detailed to Kennedy's mother. He liked how she gave them cookies.
