Opinions on Academy 1/24 Cobra 289?

Found one in a local store, and the low price of around US$6 caught my eye.

I've heard that this is inaccurate, but does this go for the engine only, or the body as well? At first glance it looks perfectly alright. I'm interested in going for a curbside look, so problems with the engine won't bother me. Does it come with a piece for the soft top?

I've always been led to believe that Academy suck pretty bad.

Well, they're the only game in town for rarities like the Ferrari 250LM. Sure beats getting the resin one.

Forget about Academy...

Unless you want to remake the body work. The shape is not that good, as most people know Cobra should have a agressive look, but this one...is worst than Fujimi 427S/C.

I'm not an expert on AC:s/Cobras, but some (early?) 289:s don't look that aggressive because they have narrow bodies. I can't remember where the body style changed, but I believe some of the 289:s are with wide fenders and all of 427:s are wide too.

first of all its a 1 25 scale kit and it is accurate it has the smaller engine as this was used for racing
its an excellent kit well worth $6
it has a half cover for the passenger seat

I just got it and am quite impressed at first glance. Lots of parts, but no optional hard top! The 289 just doesn't look too good without that.
