mark vi driver window replacement

I am replacing my drivers window motor. I ran into a problem with the regulator gear not lining up with the motor gear.The regulator gear is about 1/16th of inch to low.I tried numerous things short of cutting the lower rivets to lower the motor mount from the regulator gear.If anybody out there with knowledge what to do,please advise.Thanks,HarryK
