Check engine light on after car jump - 2016 Chevy Equinox

Hi all,

I don't know a thing about cars, and due to my car sitting for a bit my battery died. I managed to get it jumped this morning via battery pack, but since then the check engine light has come on, and it wasn't before the car battery died.

I need an oil change anyway and I did a diagnostics remotely with OnStar, and this is what was thrown back:

The Engine and Transmission System is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Engine Electrical System, including the Charging and Starting System that monitors and controls the engine starting system and 12V battery charging system. If the charge system light stays on, or comes on while driving, there may be a problem with the electrical charging system. Driving while this light is on could drain the battery. If a short distance must be driven with the light on, be sure to turn off all accessories, such as the radio and air conditioner.

An issue has been detected in the Antilock Brake System.

Does anyone know what could cause those diagnostics? Could the battery being dead and then jumped male the engine electrical system code to come back?

Welcome to the forum. Those are generic conditions stated by OnStar, an actual scan is required to see what codes generated that info. Then post back. The dead battery could have caused this.

Yes, this is probably caused by a bad battery. If it's still the original one, it's about due to be replaced anyways; especially if it's an early build 2016 which would've been assembled in 2015.

On these newer vehicles that rely heavily on computers to operate, a declining battery often causes erroneous behaviors or false warnings that might not recognized before a no-start event happens.
